and can it play real cartridges?

        • No cant do that with mini

    • Has band 28?

      • +1

Can it play other games or just pre-installed?

        • LMAO! Swooshed over a few heads!

  • -4

I like the idea of this but really they should have dumped all SNES games on this.

Otherwise its a 200 dollar console for 20 games…. that you can …. play for … free

    • +2

Surprise, some people don't like piracy and are happy to pay $120 (not $200) for a cool official product. Also, this is the first release ever of Starfox 2, and FFVI and Mario RPG have never been released in Australia.

You can't see why people would want this?

      • -4

The people that I can see interested in this should be able to do their own setup that can work with a controller in 5-30 minutes. I just can't see what is appealing in such a limited number of titles considering the great library the SNES has.

        • +1

          Official Product = Quality

Using an official controller and looking the same evokes nostalgia, which is a powerful money making thing.

        • +1

I can do that setup with ease.

However a mini snes with actual snes quality controllers. That is fantastic.

The snes controllers alone go on ebay 2nd hand in decent condition for 50 bucks a pop used providing it is in fantastic condition.

      • You're still paying for an emulator. If you want a "genuine" product it would be better to buy a real SNES with real SNES games, that has real lasting collector value, not be overcharged for a bunch of roms. This product might have Nintendo branding but at the end of the day it is just an emulator that comes with 20 roms.

        • +2

Good (profanity) luck getting a SNES and all these games for 120 bucks.

        • -4

@thescarecrow84: The comparison is not the same. $120 for a real SNES and two real games is surely better than $120 for an emulator and roms in a plastic case. Your argument is like this: Say someone posted a deal for 50 fake 1st edition shadowless Charizard Pokémon cards for $100. Someone comments that they aren't worth anything and shouldn't be bought. Then you say "good luck getting 50 real cards for $100" Well, obviously you can't do that. But isn't it better to get, say 1 or 2 real cards for your money than 50 fake ones that aren't worth the cardboard they're printed on? Same here - why spend $120 on a fake console and 20 fake games when you could buy a real console and two real games for the same price, and they're actually worth what you're paying for them?
And here, with the Pokémon card analogy, you could get fake cards a lot cheaper than that (whoever heard of a fake card costing $2?). So the product fits no market - if you're happy with fakes you can get them a lot cheaper, and if you want the real thing then this isn't it.

        • @Quantumcat:
          its running emulation aswell…

      • btw FF3 not FF6.

Frankly speaking, I wish if they could put some more game in….

        • No, really. It's FFVI. American naming be damned.

    • It'll get hacked. Then you'll be able to dump all the games on it.

      • That would require a big dump !!!

  • +1

Screw the haters. The original was my first console. Good for when some kids visit and a bit of nostalgia gaming. Thanks OP.

  • +1

Wow for RRP this is getting rave ratings! Awesome feel Nintendo is doing great!!

  • Is this worthwhile for someone who won't have any nostalgia from Nintendo?
Also how many games are 2 player / co-op in the list?

    • +4

Is this worthwhile for someone who won't have any nostalgia from Nintendo?

      Not really.

      • Some of these titles are classics and aged well, especially Link to the Past, Mario, and FF. Even never owning them, they're worth a look from fresh eyes.

    • Absolutely not. Can't deny modern games are 'better' than these. Only reason to get this is for nostalgia. Relive your childhood.

    • +1

There are some single player gems on there. Super Mario World, Yoshi's Island and Zelda are possibly still the best games ever made in their respective genres. Obviously they're nothing like modern AAA titles but if you like 2D games than they absolutely hold up amazingly well.

It's definitely not worth getting for 2p games. Some of the games only have 2p support in that players take turns. The big ones with simultaneously play are Street Fighter 2 and Mario Kart and those don't hold up well at all — newer games in those genres are better in literally every respect.

What really isn't worthwhile is this form factor. The appeal is 100% nostalgia. It's competing with downloading an emulator and a romset of every SNES game ever released (including many that are better for 2p), and if there's one thing that's unambiguously better about modern consoles it's the controllers — much more ergonomic to play these games with a PS4 or Xbox 360 controller.

  • I ordered mine way back from J.B. I’m pumped to get it, I never could enjoy emulation on a PC or phone as much as I did a real snes console. Even my modded wii is a pain to use because it doesn’t have HDMI.

    • You can buy a HDMI adapter
      or
Get a WiiU and mod the virtual Wii :)

      • Yeah I plan on buying a bunch of WiiUs and modding them all through the tits. But it’s still too expensive for me and I don’t want to mod my virgin WiiU with all Eshop purchases on it.

  • +1

If I buy 2, will they send it out/let me pick 2 up? Really want to buy one for a present too.

    • +1

Just put one in your mum's name

    • I bought two from two different stores for pick up. I got one and another for Xmas present for my brother.

    • I already bought two for delivery under me under two different orders. It went through. But did it really go through lol

      • Well the website was stuffing up on me and I now have two orders to the same store.

  • +1

Page not found. EB closed preorders for the day will reopen tomorrow morning 10am AEST.

    • +1

How do you know they will reopen at 10am tomorrow?

      • +2

it says so ont he home page

  • Is anyone still playing the NES one they bought?

    • Yep, once the hype factor wears off its actually fun little machine.

  • -6

Why would any OzBargainers pay $120 for this when you could get a Wii or Raspberry Pi for $30 or less and play ALL the SNES games (instead of just the limited number this comes with) plus games on many other consoles. You're paying $90 for a pretty shell. Is that really worth it?

    • Yes to some people it is.

      • -3

Fair enough. I predict this thing and the mini NES will have very little collector value in ten years compared to a real SNES. I predict an unboxed one will be worth about $20-$40 in today's dollars while a real SNES stays steady at about $90 of today's dollars.

        • Dont forget this is the first official release of starfox 2, sure i could just load up my pc and connect xbox or ps4 controller with emulator and play there but this is more like a coffee table book that will sit in my entertainment room as a talking point with easy setup

    • Not everyone has the technical skills to mod a Wii (or setup a Pi) and load it with emulators/ROMs. With the SNES mini you just hook up a few cables and it's ready to go.

Also, where can I get a Wii or Pi for $30 or less with 2 gamepads included?

      • -2

I got my Pi for $10 on one of the deals here. Wiis sell for $30 everywhere you look - Gumtree, Facebook etc. The Wii is really the easiest thing to mod (wayyyy easier than setting up a Pi). You just put a few files on the SD card, go into the Letters app, select a few options and bam done. Adding emulators is as easy as copying some files and the roms to the SD card. There are dozens of tutorials on the web that come up on a Google search.
I can understand buying this thing if you simply aren't aware of the other options but choosing to do so while completely informed seems a bit strange to me. But, to each their own of course (I think, if looks are the important factor, it would be more fun to buy a broken SNES with a good condition shell and put the innards of a Wii inside, and use classic controllers with it, or the third-party SNES/NES lookalike controllers that you can get on eBay and that function like normal Wii classic controllers. Cost-wise once all added up it would be similar to the SNES mini, but the added joy of it looking like a real SNES and being able to play GC, Wii, GB, GBC, GBA, Atari, Sega and NES games too).

        • +1

I got my Pi for $10 on one of the deals here.

And how much was it after adding a HDMI cable, 2 decent controllers, case and memory card?

Wiis sell for $30 everywhere you look - Gumtree, Facebook etc.

$30 will get you a console with 1 motion controller. After adding a 2nd motion controller and 2 classic controllers you'd probably be looking at $120-150 if not more. I don't believe you will find a package like this for $30, but feel free to prove me wrong.

The Wii is really the easiest thing to mod (wayyyy easier than setting up a Pi).

I'm aware. Done the mod myself and while I found it extremely easy I can guarantee that it won't be so for most.

There are dozens of tutorials on the web that come up on a Google search.

Why do people take their computers to a store for upgrades, malware removal, data recovery, etc. when there are literally thousands and thousands of tutorials online covering all of that?

Why buy tomatoes when there are free ebooks that cover planting, growing/caring and harvesting?

    • Two words: user experience

Sure, you can achieve this with a Raspberry Pi / emulators / ROMs, though not everyone likes piracy and emulation is not without its issues. Whilst you may have a lot of the required components lying around the house, the true cost of a decent setup is more than $30.

OMG is this still a thing? Selling out of retro consoles?

  • Does anyone know if I can pay with Westfield gift card in store pickup that are located inside Westfield?

    • Should be fine, but worth checking the specific store just in case.

      https://www.westfieldgiftcards.com.au/Online/Information/Ret…

    • +2

      Yes you can.

I've even managed to use my Westfield giftcards at EB Games stores not in a Westfield as all the stores link to the same database.

    • You can even use the Westfield gift cards at any store outside of Westfield.

      • From what I remember, the Westfield gift cards are for use within Westfields, but the XS cards are essentially just prepaid EFTPOS cards and can be used outside Westfields.

        • That's what they tell you. Both work outside of Westfield.

        • @ronnknee: Those bastards!

  • And they are gone again…there was plenty of time to grab one today :)

  • Anyone know instore pick up date

  • "Your order 102CE4B97D58455A-A is all bundled up and has just left our warehouse!"

    Yes, it's on it's way!

  • A user has informed us that some EB Games stores have stock available for presale as of today but it's in store only, check with your local store (let us know how you go also).

  • Mine's been dispatched a few days ago from NSW on the back of a mule..won't get to Adelaide till Thursday 5 Oct! Pathetic delivery 'speed'

Last bad experience with Eb for me. Amazon will crush this bunch

    • Good luck if you receive it. Last time I ordered a console from EB online they put the wrong address when they shipped it.. Had to wait over a month to get a refund.

      • Not to mention the 'new' games I received from them that had rental stickers on the discs! Pretty shocked you couldn't pull that sort of crap in the US or UK and still have customers!

  • Stupid question. First time I pre-ordered from EB Games (in June). Now it says available if I check my account. However, no confirmation Email ect.. Is this normal? Do I just go and hope they do have one for me or do you usually get some form of confirmation? Cheers

    • If you paid the $30 deposit for preorder, just rock up to the store and tell them your name/email. The only confirmation I got was a text yesterday, tell me to pick up today.

      • Thx, yeah I paid the 30 but no message.

        • +1

As long as you paid the $30 and it under your name/email; just head instore to pay the remaining and pick up.

  • Preordered at announcement day. Just picked it up from EB.

  • Out of stock online.

    • +3

You are everything that's wrong with the world.

      • +1

        I think that's a little overboard.

  • Check your local Big W as well, most still have them in stock.

  • EB Games Westfield Doncaster, VIC still have 4

    • lol suck it scaplers :)

I guess all the previous out-of-stock/sold-out thing was just to build up the hype?

    • +1

Looking at completed sales on eBay tonight - people are still buying them for that much!

      • Haha… What a bunch of idiots!

  • Guess it's time to offload mine because it doesn't look like these are going to go up in price anytime soon, too much production….

    • Is that you Broden?

  • Back in stock (thanks darthhasbro).

  • +1

Look up Hakchi if you want extra ROMS, very easy to use and tons of information on it

    • +1

Except that's not working for this yet, only mini nes.
Hakachi 2 is what you'll need.

  • Are now hackable as of the other day. Dont ask me how though, I'm not taking mine out of the box till I finish Persona.
