TeleChoice mobile network uses part of Telstra's 4G and 3G mobile network.

    Hmm "part of"

    • +2

      Hi Spackbace,

We use what is known as the Telstra Wholesale network - this covers 98.8% of the Australian population and utilises part of Telstra's 4G and 3G mobile network.

The best way to find out if you are covered with us is to check the coverage map you've linked above :) (https://www.telechoice.com.au/our-mobile-network)

      • +1

IMO you should change the wording to say "TeleChoice mobile network uses the Telstra Wholesale Network" instead of the current version, less ambiguity.

        • Pretty sure that wording is what Telstra would allow Telechoice to say

        • Its not the same network, so the 'parts of' phrasing is correct.. Not so long ago wholesale re-sellers were stuck on 3G only.
Not 100% sure, but I believe they now only have access to 3g/4g not '4GX' ie 4G LTE.

        • Hi Thunderstruck86

That's correct - at this stage we have access to 3G and 4G but we do not currently have access to 4GX

  • Can I still use Telstra's WiFi Calling with Telechoice?

    • Hi Bahgain,

We do not have access to this Telstra feature unfortunately.

  • +1

So you guys were unable to work something out and have one tier instead of a massive difference in offereing over a difference of $1

    $28 now 4GB + unlimited^ calls between 7pm – 7am, unlimited^ SMS/MMS anytime and $1000 calls. [Minimum cost $336 over 12M]
    $29 now 6GB + unlimited^ calls, SMS/MMS [Minimum cost $348 over 12M]

    • +3

      Hi Kamban,

The sole difference for these two tiers is international calls. If international calls are important to you then the $1000 included on the $28 can be split between national and international. Otherwise your best bet would be the $29 plan :)

      • That's cool

      • can you use the $1000 for international sms?

        • +1

          Hi PissLUR,

If you wanted to then yes :) The plan has two lots of pools from which calls come from:

Unlimited Calls within Australia from 7pm - 7am - If you make a call within these hours within Australia is won't come out of the $1000
$1000 of credit: Can be used from national calls outside of the above hours, international calls and international SMS

          International SMS are $0.50/SMS

      • If I start with a m2m can I switch after to a 12months? I'd like to test it first.

    • +3

I asked before and it turned out to be that the $28 plan allows you to spend credit on international calls and sms.

  • This is great. It seems that I am very likely to go back to Telechoice after my 6 months honeymoon with Amaysim. Action Amaysim! :)

    • Great to hear JaySu :)

  • How about the $19 plan? It's not the best value anymore.

  • The days of free calls between Xpm and Yam are over. Please move on so shitty.

    • +1

      Hi Bellpop,

We just have the one plan with it ;) The point of it is so that people can better use that $1000 for overseas calls.

  • So existing customers get nothing?? Take a look at Kogan … that's where I'm heading now

    • Hi LoungeLizard,

If you are an existing customer and your are out of contract you can go to any of the above plans :)

You can also recontract on any of the 12 month plans if you are:

      • in your last month of a 12 month contract
      • in your last three months of a 24 month contract
      • I'm only three months into my contract. What pisses me off is that the plan I'm on was advertised as a "special/limited time" offer. Now it's suddenly got 50% more data for the same price.

        • call them and talk i believe few of things are negotiable with them.

  • Who to choose, TeleChoice, TPG or Southern Phone?

    • TPG charges a SIM setup fee, (deposit of $20) and a port out fee of $11, so definitely not TPG.

But if you are good with arguing you could perhaps complain to TIO and get TPG to waive it.

      • We think you should choose us 99altezza, but we might be biased.

    • dont go near TPG

  • @rep:
any decent upgrade from your $20 M2M? 2GB isnt enough but going extra $8 and 12M contract is too expensive.

    • Hi Dragonindespair,

At this stage no - this plan refresh was more focused on the higher end plans. We do however understand that they've remained unchanged for quite a while now. When we get something new (which will hopefully be soon) we'll be sure to let everyone know!

  • TeleChoice, My $29 12 Month Contract with Telechoice expires soon, am I able to get this new Deal $29 with 6Gb. When Old expires in a couple weeks?

    • +1

      Hi Megod,

If you are in your last month then you can recontract on to any of the above 12 month plans :)

      • TeleChoice,
        Thanks :)

    • +2

Same expiry soon but my 29 already come with 5.5gb no incentive to tied up another year for only 0.5gb?

  • +3

Hey TeleChoice - what is the minimum deducted unit for data usage? 1KB? 10KB? 1MB?

I can only seem to find the data increments listed for the 'excess' data usage (which is listed as 10KB), not for included data.

    • +1

      Hi Mad__llama,

As long as you are on a LIVE plan, data is billed in 1KB blocks accross the board. The wasn't however the case on our older legacy plans (which we have stopped selling for a while) so i'm wondering if the information you've found is outdated. Could you please link me to the above statement for excess so I can do a bit of an investigation

      • I got the info from this page (searched on your website for "data usage"): https://www.telechoice.com.au/?/usage-notification-policy
        Last paragraph in section 4

A NOTE: It would be really (really!!) good if data usage minimum increments were stated in the Critical Information Summary for all phone companies - it makes it hard to compare plans (which is the purpose of the CIS).

        • +1

          Hi Mad__llama

Thank you for pointing this out - i've just requested for this to be updated. Usage is definitely deducted in 1KB blocks across all of our current LIVE plans.

As for the CIS - i'm inclined to agree and i've passed on this feedback :) Each time we post on Ozbargain I normally get asked this question.

        • @TeleChoice:
          Thanks!

  • Kind reminder. Please avoid telechoice. If you don’t exceed your data you all good, once you exceed they’ll charge you a huge amount of money for that. Last I’ve been charged over $200. Also their data usage is not in real-time, it’s two days delay. I’ll never recommend telechoice to any of my friend.

    • +1

I believe that that changed the last time they updated their plans. Now you just pay $10 for a 1GB data pack.

      • Good to know, thanks for the update.

        • Hi Ypqfyf,

I'm sorry to hear about the bad experience you've had with us in the past. As Chymb has pointed out things have changed quite a bit in the respect over the past couple of years. We also now have real time usage alerts to try and prevent bill shock.

        • @TeleChoice:
Can confirm. the $200ish thing happened to me 2 years ago, just before the new plans came out with the $10 per 1gb and real time usage stats. i've never gone over my allowance unknowingly since, i've always had plenty of warning.

  • What can you offer that would make me choose you over Optus when they offer 15gb plus unlimited music, mobile tv and Optus Sport streaming for $40/month?

    • Along with unlimited calls, sms and 1gb roaming data?

      • Hi Thektrinh,

Our is a little bit more expensive than this, but we also don't utilise the same network as Optus.

  • Any data share plans ?

    • Hi Wei13,

At this stage we do not have data sharing on our plans.

  • I used to be with Telechoice. Can't remember exactly why I switched but it had something to do with data allowances. Am now with Boost for more than a year now and have no complaints. Runs on the same network, I gather. $30 now nets unlimited calls and SMS and 3Gb (+1Gb every weekend)

  • I'm with ovo and like it $34.95 8gig unlimited calls in oz and 100 internatiinal minutes :https://www.ovo.com.au/home

    • Hi Nik1977,

We think our $38 stacks up pretty well against this!

The 12M $38 has 12GB of data, unlimited calls and 200 international minutes to selected countries.
The M2M $38 has 8GB of data, unlimited calls and 100 international minutes to selected countries.

We also operate off a different network than OVO.

  • +1

So I have the exact same $29 plan and signed up ~4months ago.
    What's the actual deal?
By that I mean that it been like this for quite a while and I see no reason for posting it other than advertising.
OP I will negative vote the deal unless you can clearly tell others why this is not spam.

Edit: I actually remember arguing to get a better deal at the time and the actual plan was for 5.5GB.
An extra 500MB doesn't seem like much of a deal really…
But hey I did have to speak to a few people to get it so this is easier..
    Removed negative vote.

    • +1

I'm inclined to agree with the rather mild increase of 500mb. Saying that though, been happy with the service and service coverage works for me in my usual haunts.

      • +1

        Hi Ozy,

The main data increases are on the $38 and the $48 plans, but given the style of the post (about data increasing) I thought it would be a good idea to include the $28 and $29 too even though the data increase is just incremental :)
