Best Credit Card + Debit Card Combo for International Travelling

Hi,

What are the best credit card and debit card (that allows ATM withdrawal) currently on offer to be used overseas?
I have 28 Degrees Credit Card and Citibank Plus account. Are they still the best on offer, i.e. no fees, great FX rates, etc?
This is for UK and EU trips.

TIA

    Yes.

My credit card of choice is now the BankWest Zero Platinum MasterCard, for the free travel insurance, and also because Latitude (28° MasterCard) imposes a charge for paying with BPay.

  • Yes, although the 28 Degrees card is not required. The Citibank Mastercard Debit is enough.

A credit card can come in handy when a hotel or whatever wants to take an authorisation. Have a CC/DC combo and that way your own funds aren't held up for X amount of days.

      • You can do this with the Citbank Mastercard Debit; or if it's for authorisation only you can use a local Australian creditcard.

That's what I did last time, used a local card for securing hotel bookings and authorisations but paid with cash withdrawn from Citibank Plus Debit or paid hotels using Citibank Plus Debit where I trusted the establishment.

I just got back from Europe and US. Used ANZ Adventures Credit Card and Citibank Plus for withdrawals.

Useful to have both when some ticket machines wouldn't take one but the other.

    • ANZ Adventures is a great card - can't figure out why it's not more popular.

  • Do you get charge a few on ATM withdrawals on the Bank West Zero Platinum card?

  • Is the Citibank Card still charge any fees? Travelling to the US

    Thanks S

    • Nope. Only fees would be ATM fees by the operator, but do not know what the situation for this is in the US.
