    That's a long holiday!

During Chinese New Year too! Shanghai will be empty!

    • You get the point. Definitely the best time of the whole year to visit Shanghai.

    Any departures from Brisbane ?

    • +3

      congrats

    • And then?

    • +5

Definitely in the top 5 stories I've ever heard

    • HK is part of china. i do think most china airlines are better than the airlines companies in Australia. I still remember only quantas can provide meals during the trip. Other companies are so terrible. No food no drink. Even the Virgin airline they just give u a piece of biscuit.

      • +4

         a piece of biscuit.

I know, right? Not even a whole biscuit!

        • -1

Still better than Ethiopian Airlines, where you only get a crumb.

When you don't know how to spell Qantas, probably not the person to be giving advice on airlines. I'm obviously not talking about the food, I'm talking about safety. My friend said that some Chinese airlines did not stick to the required Rolls Royce service schedules, and the engines came in regularly with chipped and cracked turbine blades. This was not the case with western airlines. Cracked turbine blades can result in engine failure. This is a piece of consumer advice, do with it what you will, but belittling information like this because you had a flight on China Southern (because you were too an cheap to pay for a decent airline), and it was fine is equally anecdotal as my example. The difference? My evidence comes from an aeronautical engineer with a focus on metal fatigue, and the other comes from you, some dude who willingly gets on the cheapest airline available. And not you personally, guy I am quoting, you collectively as in the people making jokes about my original post.

    • How to offer reliable advices 101:
Have an unnamed friend who works at blah blah company who said blah blah about blah blah.

Super credible and earns you trust every time :)

      • Rolls Royce engines in Hong Kong is pretty clear and his name is irrelevant to anyone here.

Haha I hope your guys don't take Chinese airline in future. Then I can lie down on the seat in my next trip.

        • -2

There's a chance you'll be lying down for a very long time

beware, cny, most shops are closed

    • +1

Shops never close in China, even on Chinese New Year's day

      • Wrong.

      • So wrong.

      • Not true at all

    • -1

are you kidding? or neven been China?
everythings in China will never stop and most of them runs 7/24 even on CNY or 10.1.
this is called Chinese Speed. they can reach the GDP second role in the world means something.

      • I mean they are open every day, not 7/24

      • Because they never been to china. You shouldn't blame them.

    • If owners want to make money I think they will open during the holiday. Most are open 24/7 on holidays. Even some massage stores convienve stores.

      • Hang on, I'm pretty sure Chinese shops are open 25/7. They manage to squeeze in an extra hour of business every day, i.e. for each revolution of the planet. Very savvy, the Chinese.

  • Plan to use my AMEX travel credit to purchase, but AMEX travel doesn't reflect these promotion price.

There's a sucker born every minute. the AMEX card with the travel credit is a con.

  • Shanghai is the most amazing place I ve ever been!!

    • +3

Yeh. Reminds me of Wollongong a bit

      • +1

Or Melbourne CBD, or any train running through Melbourne's western suburbs. Note that this is not a racist comment - it is not meant to be construed as a negative comment about Chinese people. It's just an observation. Things change. Get over it.

Air China is the worst assshole. Avoid it at all costs.

So do Sydney drivers. What's your point?

  • +1

    Condition 7 is ever best

  • good price for chinese NYE

  • +1

Great price for that trip, just be wary that Beijing at that time of year can be still below zero and Shanghai will only be low single figures. All good if you're prepared but it's something that should be considered.

  • i heard the air quality in beijing is similar to that of tasmania. read it in a chinese travel brochure. can someone verify this please?

    • Hahha. Maybe it's the same as directly inside a smelter of some sorts…

    • CNY is the best time for air quality with all the factories shut down for holidays.

  • I have just call them. There is no ticket for 350 anymore. They are sold out. The cheapest is 458 at this stage.

    Air China is rubbish…
