WD Elements 2TB HDD $95 with Free Delivery or C&C @ Harvey Norman

220

Also the 1TB is going for $78: https://www.harveynorman.com.au/wd-elements-1tb-portable-har…

I don't think they're the cheapest prices ever posted here, but I got an email from HN a little while ago and thought to drop these here just in case anyone is interested. Good luck!

PS: Thanks to doweyy, you can also price beat this at Officeworks, and get it for $90.25.

Holding out for a WD passport ultra metal edition! Pretty uncommon sales though

    • I rather the element range so I don't pay for the software part, just a plain drive.

Best looking drive I have would be a Sony one with its anodised aluminium tube case.

      • yeah true i format all the software away before first use anyway

wirecutter suggests seagate slim as the most reliable drive but i've always found WD drives a bit better. not sure…i've got a couple but wouldn't mind a nice slim looking one as a daily driver as long as it is as reliable. might check out the sony anodised one

        • I have no idea if Sony still sells them, got it from JB a few years back.

A while back I got a Passport but the Sony PS3 didn't like it and even though I reformatted there was still some software in the firmware that the PS3 didn't like.
Even the format and plugging into a windows pc it would pop up a message wanting to install software on the PC.
After that Elements suited me fine… plain and simple drive and lasted for years, still have them and fine for a backup, son used a 320 gig for his mac air.

I don't really believe one brand is a mile better, seagate has lasted me too, got a 2tb plugged in router and it's on 24/7 for nearly 3 years so far. That's a drive with a plug pack not USB powered though.

Free delivery too might want to add that to title :)

    • Didn't even realize that. Ta :-)

And put 5% price beat at Officeworks, ending up at $90.25 :)

Just be aware that these drives use a usb connector direct to the board. That means you can't salvage them to use as internal on laptop. The Seagate ones you can.

    • You can use these as XBox internal drives (or so I was told). I really wouldn't salvage these or Seagate drives to use them as internal laptop drives anyway. Better spend more and get SSD rather than HDD, unless you've got an old laptop.

Yeah, I wouldn't use as a primary, but I used as a secondary with a ssd. And a 2tb drive ssd… What a 1000bucks? And if be checking on xbox internal, old model wd you could, these have usb soldered directly, check I out you tube for the model.

      • No you can't as the drive doesn't have the correct connector. Seagates you are meant to be able to though.

Thanks, I'm currently looking for a new portable hard drive as the other one just died on me a couple of days ago (after dropping it 15cm onto the table) :(. I was looking at this exact model and was planning to buy it this weekend. Fantastic that it's dropped to $95.

    • If you can wait for a week, Amazon us has some good prices on 4 and 5tb drives.

    Thanks OP. Got a 1GB and a 2GB.

One for storage, the other for TimeMachine.
