  This model has bad reviews with their wheels fall off plus I bought an Octolite and it broke on the side first overseas trip and they won't fix it under warranty. Seriously if you pay more thinking you are paying for a more durable or better warranty product please think twice!

    They won't fix anything under their warranty because their BS terms "not covered for travel".
    Call them and mention Australian Consumer Law (ACL) and it's definitely a 'reasonable expectation' for a suitcase last more than 1 trip. Most of the time they will repair/replace the item for you.

      luggage wheels not covered for travel… so their legal team think the luggage isn't designed for travel?? did anyone tell the engineering/design team??

        Not just the wheels, the whole thing isn't design for travel!

        This warranty covers only manufacturing defects and does not cover any damage caused by misuse (such as transportation of unusual items), neglect, accidents, abrasion, exposure to extreme temperatures, solvents, acids, water, normal wear and tear or transport damage (by airlines for example).

        @nbn: surely then, all you need is to submit a written warranty claim to samsonite, they'll reject it in writing (based on the quoted clause), and forward that to ACCC (or fair trading nsw) noting it isn't fit for purchase?

        Edit: it's not the way to go.. i know. dodgy samsonite. wonder if others are the same

      My Octolite, the cover for one of the hinge broken off during the first overseas flight back home and they refused to fix it under warranty quoting something about I need to be with the luggage while the damage happened. Seriously do they expect anyone to sit in the storage compartment with their luggage on the plane while travelling ? That was my first Samsonite purchase and I am sure is the last too.

    These guys are right, their warranty basically covers nothing. Pretty much any problem will be categorised "damage".

    Don't go for the uber-light model. Go for the mid-range that still has the stronger hardware.

  Definitely looks prettier than its function. Wife purchased one when it was first released.

  Wheels are crap under load or rolling on carpet, telescopic handle is unstable and wobbly with heavy load

  I buy nothing but RIMOWA. absolutely abused the crap out of my luggage and so far everything's covered under warranty.

  You get what you pay for.

      Depends on what you get.

      For hand luggage I have a pilot multi wheel with a attaché (aluminium), they're weighty, but they are carry on and I usually dont have much

      For check in I have the 73l limbo (polycarbonate case with an aluminium frame - water resistant) they are about 5kgs unloaded

      I purchased most of mine when they were still shipping to Aus from koffer24. They were shipping from Germany for about 35% off aud retail.

      Last year I went to Munich on a binge and spent another 4K euro (wife wanted a topas stealth carry on) but it's reasonable there unlike the non negotiable prices you pay from hunt leather…
