I need to buy a vacuum.
Should I be spending $600 on a Dyson that would last 5 years or buy a $100 every 2 years?
It is for home.Reasonable traffic area.

Do your bit for the environment and avoid having 3 vacuum cleaners in working order be in the land fill over 5-6 years.
Having said that, have only used Dyson's since the first non Dyson and have been extremely happy with the quality and after sales service.
Don't forget the performance and (perceived) ease of use of the vacuum.
Our Dyson in the UK came with a 5 year warranty as standard (here it's an additional $89?). It was working 'almost' (maybe 80-85% as good as when brand new), after 12 years.
Bought another Dyson on emigrating here, no hesitation.
Buy cheap, false economy. I only bought a cheap vac once when I renovated a house, near destroyed it with dust/rubble, sold it on to a student property afterwards.

Yep, I suspect most consumer vacuum cleaners (including Dysons) would fare the same as they are not designed to be used for such purposes.
I'm not saying it was bad, it did a sterling job, but I bought it to ruin it rather than a nicer vac! That use would have destroyed the dyson too! It wasn't as good a vac when brand new as the dyson was after over a decade in pick up terms, just did the job I needed.
Another vote for the Dyson, we went through the cheapies from Godfreys, even the not so cheapies from there too, we then got a Dyson and noticed a significant difference.
I got a Bosch Freed[spl] i am NOT satisfied with it
I have a miele which is great.
However it is currently having a well earned rest now that the xiaomi robot does the work for us.
even a $100 lasts just as long.
Sister has Dyson, said they are a pain for stairs and the power head messes up, needing a service a few times (belts or rollers but I am not sure of the exact fault). I would buy something else.
A good new Electrolux is fine and does a great job in our family home . Meile are meant to be good too.
Why do you expect a $100 one to only last 2 years?
My ~$150 Kambrook CaptivG3 has lasted 5 years and still going strong (watch it die now :/). Good value for money in my books.
FYI Not saying get mine, it does have some shortcomings. Small hopper, shortish cord, fiddly to empty/clean.
