    • +4

Yea obviously us heathens in BNE don’t use pillows.

Funny how I wont buy a Tontine anymore.

      • +1

        why wont you buy tontine?

sheridan pillows are good i use them

      • +15

Yeah - we use Bricks in BNE
        Pillows are for softies :-)

        • +8

You should go and exchange your brick for a pillow.

        • +17

          Bricks? LUXURY!

When I was a lad we DREAMED of sleeping on bricks. We had to use land mines.

        • +5

But you try and tell the young people today that… and they won't believe ya'

        • Queenslanders…

  • awesome

a little late for Sydney - Martin Place =[

    • That's a little unfair to neg it - check out the second line. Bondi Junction Friday and Saturday.

EDIT: Looks like neg was removed.

    • Just in case, I have swapped dates with locations to avoid any possibility of confusion over expiry, and added the word "expired" after the two dates that are no longer available.

    • +1

I am too late for flinders street so I will have to miss out. Lol the scare campaigns. Can't pillows just be hand washed anyways… said Isha as the grapes were too sour.

  • +10

WTF???? Westfield Bondi JunctioN?? people in the East got plenty of money to buy better pillows…and Martin Place ?? catch a train with your old pillow??? what are they thinking????

    • +8

They just don't want u to exchange.

    • +4

um that they have a business to run, and they are targeting their target demographic?

  • +13

It'll be funny being seen hugging a old pillow on the bus and train. But then again, it'll be the most comfy public transport ride ever(:

    • +2

Not to mention if there are stains on your pillow. Gross!!!

      • +2

As long as you don't mention where those stains came from you'll be alright

        • +3

Just fib and say it's dribble. :)

  • +1

Good marketing, wish there was one for adel, would exchange like 10 pillows lol

    • +9

      Are you running a B&B?

    • +1

There was one better in Adelaide a few weeks ago - SA Lotteries was doing a promotion about winning the lotto and taking a siesta - so they were handing out free pillows at the railway station. Was a little surreal walking around town with every second person having a pillow tucked under their arm!

      • +5

Instead of being bashed at a station there could be pillow fights! ;-)

  • +1

Does a 30cm x 30cm sofa cushion type pillow counts?

    • I wonder if they will also take the old sofa that is attached to the pillow I want to hand in. lol!

  • Is there a limit ie is it one pillow per person?

    • +2

Yes I heard on the radio in Sydney this morning that it was limited to 1 pillow exchange per person

      • Eh? Limited to 1 pillow per person?
Can't be bothered to drive to Bondi Junction then, except if it's going to be the expensive memory foam / down range.
Yeah right, what's the chances. It's just the polyester one, which cost like $5-$10 @Kmart, right?

      • +3

If you're that keen maybe you exchange an old pillow, go down to the car park, pick up another old pillow, try to change the expression on your face, hope that they don't recognise you, and do another exchange. ;)

  • sweet

  • Anyone know how much these pillows are worth? Or what the quality is like?
I'm not keen on driving 30mins if they are rubbish.

Also, couldn't find a shop called Homewares Precinct on the Bondi Westfield's site. Is it referring to a store or a specific area?

    • A friend informed me they recieved a Tontine High and Firm. I haven't gotten one myself yet so I can't confirm this.

sash: What can I do for you?
wonga: I need to know where I can get some free pillows.
sash: free pillows? My goodness, what an idea. Why didn't I think of that? pillows! Wonga, there's four places. There's the Pillow Hut, that's on fifth.
      wonga: Uh-huh.
sash: There's Pillows-R-Us, that's on fifth too. You got Put-Your-Head-There.
      wonga: Mm-Hmm.
sash: That's on fifth. Snore Low, Sweet Chariot… Matter of fact, they're all in the same district; it's the homewares district on fifth.
      wonga: Oh, the homewares precinct!
      sash: That's right.

  • Damn op, give us melb people a break!!! Doncaster is out of the way for most of us and like sydney, the people near there should be able to afford there own, I have 2 extras I'm about to throw out:(

    • +5

I didn't make the deal I just posted it as soon as I found out about it - as a heads up to the true cheaparses that are willing to go the extra mile for a freebie. :)

      • Atleast you shared! And touché lol

    • Whats all this banter about people being able to afford pillows?

Tontine isn'tt a charity. They aren't going to give away pillows to every suburb just because their target market is in certain areas.

    • Awesome … I pass by Doncaster regularly :) :) :)

      • +1

BTW Thanks to the mods for the formatting. :)
        Cheers

  • +1

not sure if I should go to Bondi tomorrow and do this, its a 50 minute drive. But I do need new pillows.. hmm.

How do they enforce the 1 per person?? Surely I could just grab one then get another 5-10mins later?

    • +3

Surely 50min of your time, (not to mention petrol) is worth more than a $10 pillow.

    • I assume they will recognise you when you return, judging by the photos on their website.

  • +1

Eeew….look at all these dribble stained pillows at Martin Place.

  • +6

Funny they advertise their pillows as being washable and now they are printing "use by" dates on them (each way bet?). Next they'll make self destructing ones so "we'll know when to buy a new one" ;-)

From their website: Register Your Pillow - "By completing this pillow registration, you are confirming you would like to receive a reminder informing you when your pillow may not be so fresh anymore." lol

Kmart have Tontine pillows on special from today. 3pack Medium feel/height is $15 ($5 per pillow). Other varieties are $15 per 2pack.

    • Thanks for the that info. The freebies are most probably their cheapest range, unless someone can state otherwise. Now I know it's not worth the drive for me.

  • +4

Funniest ever comments thread! :-) I even registered just to say that.

  • Is this for a whole bed or just a pillow?

  • Wonder how all these people found out, to bring their pillow with them to work?

  • +1

    Great, Perth gets screwed again.

    • +5

East siiiiiiiiiide is da best side bro!!

  • I've got close to 10 crappy old pillows lying around the house, shame, no go for Bris'o. It's only 1 exchange per person i guess.
Some of my old pillows are really warped, and some are flat as a pancake. I would love to see their faces if i took one of those in.

  • OK, so I went with 2 others to Doncaster in VIC and they said they're out of stock.
What happened to one person one pillow? Out the window. I saw an old couple walking around holding 6 new pillows and 3 old ones. They told me they brought 9 old pillows and got the last six.

The Tontine rep said they'd have more at 1430hrs.
    Let's hope I get some then… .

Went back traded 3 grungy old ones for 1.
It pays to be a senior citizen, they changed like 3 as a couple.
But for me, they held firm for 1 to 1.

  • are there anymore at doncaster? i am planning to head there soon

    edit: plenty left at 2:45pm

    • +1

The one I got was called Tontine Goodnight Firm & High Pillows

which seems to be different to the

Tontine Pure Happiness Firm & High Pillows for $34.95 at BigW

      • +3

You are always expected to pay extra to get happiness.

        • har har har :P

        • so that's what they meant by "would you like to pay extra for a happy ending!"

      • +1

From the pics, those old, dirty pillows must have been "Impure Happiness" ones then ;-)

      • Note: They said that the demand was higher than expected and there might not be any more pillows for Saturday's exchange

  • -1

Really stupid and unfair way to do a giveaway. Neg for Tontine.

    • +1

Fair doesn't come into it. It's their money and their goal is to maximise publicity for money spent. Whether or not they achieved that is a different question, but it's not a question of fairness.

      • Funny how you only ever get comments like that from people that live in the giveaway area.

        • +1

I didn't go get a pillow, too far away for me. But a pillow exchange is not a civil right.

  • There was a massive line at Doncaster. No way I was waiting that long and probably not enough for that many anyway.

  • Are there many/any left @ Doncaster?

  • Plenty in Doncaster. Line was long, but it was quick. Got my pillows in less than 5 mins. It was basically touch and go thing. Totally hassle free :)

  • queueing up at doncaster westfield atm. Ran out of first batch of pillow but they seems to have more comin. Around about 50 ppl queueing up now
