The strings on these are terrible. The pegs slip and always fall out of tune, I wouldn't recommend this to someone actually interested in learning.
Agree, I bought this long time ago, it is now the toy of my 4 y.o. daughter.
Monterey guitars are the same. Would not recommend this brand. The only reason JB still sells them is because beginners keep buying them.
Some of them are okayish but build quality sucks. Even on their higher end models. I went through 4 and still have issues with the woodtone on my SG clone. Was a bargain price though.
@syousef: Try Artist guitars. Cheap, and from reviews, they're pretty good. Aus company, guitars are made in China.

I've been meaning to try them out, but I can't justify getting another one until I sell off my others.
Yeah they're not bad. Their basic beginner's electric guitar that I bought a few years back is nice enough but is very particular about how it's set up. The Mounterey SG clone was $121 and I couldn't beat that. As I was eyeing it my wife decided it was my birthday present from her to me a year or two back so I could exchange it but would have annoyed her if I took it back.
The real disappointment was my Vintage "Lake Pacific Blue" SX Strat bought from South Coast Music - very close in colour to Fender's "Lake Placid Blue". Unfortunately it needs fret leveling, which is beyond my skill level, and I had to add filler to a nut that was cut too deep. As shipping back and forth would have been too expensive all they offered was to send me a nut in the mail (which they did very recently, months after purchase).
Cheap guitars eh…I have a dozen or so. Not worth anything and I suck playing but man they're pretty ;-)
@syousef: High-five, buddy! I haven't played in AGES, and even then, I couldn't play to save my life. But they look great on the wall. I had an Epiphone SG. Great sound, but it wouldn't stay in tune. Sold that one off in the end. Got myself an Epiphone 336 after that. I play it sometimes (like… once a year, maybe) without it plugged in. Loud enough to play quietly while everyone is asleep.
Won't add to cart.
