  • These are also on ebay so you can use the 20% off code.

    • Yep - looked at that but most are sold out on Ebay. I bought the last of a few.

      • I had Pacific Rim in my cart then when I clicked "pay" it said no stock… was that you??????? Haha

        • I managed to get Pacific Rim just now.

        • @Phalaxis: Damn… maybe I'll just keep refreshing in case they add more stock. :(

It is a problem when you've watched them once already… Who wants to watch San Andreas more than once?

I want a 4K TV, but for 4K content I think I'll be mainly streaming Netflix for a while.

    • +4

4K San Andreas is actually fake. Quality isn't as good at the blu-ray counterpart.

      • All the ones in this sale arent true 4k

        • +1

Have realised this with the exception of batman v superman which was average anyway.

        • +1

@ruddiger7: oh yep that one is real.

I suggest Planet Earth 2, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon and Hateful 8 when it gets a release… otherwise there's not much real 4k bluray content worth getting yet!

        • @Putnum: For full 4K, Lucy is fantastic, as is Sully if it's your kind of movie.

        • @Putnum: Harry Potter is being released very shortly elsewhere and is available for pre order. Remembering 4K BR are region free.

        • @Putnum:

          PE2 is amazing.

          Hateful Eight is available elsewhere

    • Honestly the movies where 4K will offer the biggest improvement in quality over 1080p are probably the newer Disney and Pixar animations.

They are much more likely to be watched more than once, too, for most households.

        Definately in mine.

      • Source? I'm not aware of any animated movie that's being rendered in higher than 2K.

        • Huh.

I was referring to the fact that these films will show a more noticeable improvement in detail rendered at 4K compared to live action - I was just assuming they were being rendered in 4k and released as 4k blu-rays as a result.

But I went googling and found no actual info. Websites listing real 4k vs fake upscaled 4k blu-rays don't list Moana, Zootopia, etc in either list. Maybe they really aren't being rendered in 4k or higher yet?

Doesn't make much sense to me. Obviously there's no major technical issues there besides taking longer to render at higher resolutions, but there's not much cost in that (relative to the profits on the table vs the other sunk costs of making the film).

I found articles talking about 4k possibly being a challenge, mentioning that rendering will take longer in 4k. But they

          a) are all from 2014 and

          b) they're mostly just non technical journalists getting 4k confused with 48 FPS, which is understandably something that's probably not worth doing for animation (even more so than live action).

Maybe the marketers decided people won't pay extra to see "kids movies" in 4K? Not very smart…

  • Is there a bluray player that plays (almost) all file formats and can play disks of any region? I have a LG one (not 4k) but it cannot play 10-bit mkvs, some avi file etc. Also there is no way to make it region free as it a "smart" device :(

    • +1

Sounds like you'd be heading into PC territory.

    • +1

Have you googled "model number region unlock"? Many Blu ray players can have their region lock changed/unlocked with a sequence of buttons.

      • Sure the old models had that feature. Not the new smart ones..

I've given up collecting discs personally, have 200+ DVD's collecting dust, 100+ Blu Rays collecting dust, 25+ 4k Blu Rays collecting dust.. where does it end?

    • don't buy more, watch and swap it with someone, rinse and repeat

      • I assume that its mainly for displaying your great collection.
I don't think most people would have time to watch their 1000's of discs over and over?

I personally will only buy great movies that I will watch over and over.

        • +1

Just buy empty cases with 4k HDR movie cover to display a collection like that

        • +1

@ozdesi: That's like having a nice Ultra-wide monitor and there are dead pixels everywhere :-)

        • +2

@congngo: sell it better, say it's OLED with deepest blacks

    • ahh.. you will never need a vacuum cleaner..

    • If you have projector or a largish TV, you can still notice a very significant improvement with Blu-ray over streaming (4K streaming sometimes has poorer overall image than even 1080p blu-ray, and the sound is worse).

But yeah, I mostly just rent blu-rays (when a free Video Ezy Kiosk code comes up) these days, and only buy Blu-rays of stuff like Disney movies we'll watch many times over the next few years.

  • +1

Great deal but all the good blu ray sold out after 30 mins to merchers.

  • Didn't JB had 2 x 4k Movies for $20? If you missed out on these then still a good deal

    • +2

      JB has a larger selection.

      • +2

        And was 2 for $40.

  • Not as cheap but Mad Max $18 and Batman vs Superman I think was $12.

  • -2

Sadly already got most of these. I am Legend I probably would only accept for a $50 payment in my favour…

  • I take it this is online only?

    • nope - in store as well.

  • all the ones i want like tarzan are gone …..

  • rip all gone…except the superman one…
