    • lol, don't these devices more exist to amplify some neighbour's open network from across the street or share your connection with someone down the road who's paying half your bills!! (C'mon its OzBargain - check the username)

Can you get them to price beat TA again lol?

      Trying right now! :)

      • Sorry guys, I tried but the store rep has gone home for the day.

  • can someone tell where is this thing fixed? does it work for 2 bedroom apartments ? Or should I just buy it now and later use it when I buy a house in Sydney ;)

    • You just plug it into any usb port! Yes you can use it with a 2 bedroom apartment

      • +1

Thanks mate.. At the moment I get good signal at my second bedroom too.. Does this increase the speed any better?

        • +3

          It will not increase speed.

Generally how this works is, whereever you plug it in, it will amplify the speed and signal received.

Lets say you have 25mbps connection, but a room far away receives 5 mbps. Where you attached the extender you get lets say 15mbps. It will then boost the signal it receives and hence your room far away will receive speeds greater than 5mbps

          I really don't think you'd need this for a 2 bedroom apartment

        • It will reduce the speed since it is only a basic repeater and creates double the congestion.
If only low speed NBN or ADSL then it wouldn't matter to internet speeds.
Need to look at dual band 5Ghz networks for less congestion problems.

        • For 5 bucks its worth a shot, but to be totally honest in my experience, these do very little to improve network reliability, when i worked in tech retail wifi extenders were the most returned products. For larger houses, its generally worth running ethernet to a second access point, but a single router really should do a 2BRM apt. But at this price, even a small improvement is worth it.

2 Beds APT won't need a wifi extender. All u need to do is ensure ur router r placed in the correct position.

        That's what she said

  • Cheers OP :)

  • My PayPal converts it to $7.75 even after leaving it in USD. Any ideas?

    • +1

Have you got it linked to a credit card that allows foreign currency transactions? From memory there is also a link on the desktop version of the paypal web site to turn off paypal currency conversions, but it was hidden/hard to spot and not an option on mobile devices (or I never found it if there is). Sorry that I can't recall exactly where/which screen.

    • +1

Hello, with the PayPal paying in foreign currency never use PayPal conversion rate. You will see "More Payment Options" on PayPal page under the amount, click that and choose "Use source payment currency conversion".

      • Cheers I found it on mobile once I selected Credit card instead of Bank account.
Comes up as "convert with card provider"
Hopefully my cc allows me to do without a huge fee
My cc is a bog standard Westpac Visa

        • +1

Don't worry, it not going to be huge, only 3%.

    • To make this change permanently so PayPal currency conversion is never used by default, follow these steps:

Just wanted to share something here.

I bought a Xiaomi router from this seller and after receiving the router noticed that it is a different model form what it was advertised. In seller listing it says that the max speed of the Ethernet port is 1000 M but the one that I received had a max Ethernet speed of 100 M. So I contacted them and asked for a return and refund of my money. Here is the funny nasty answer that I got from them:

    Dear Customer,

    Thank you for your message.

The related department has confirmed that this product has a 1000Mbps speed. If you read the box you will notice it says 10/100mbps. The speed of it it's 1000Mbps since 10 x 100 = 1000Mbps. The one is just written differently.

The product received is the correct model ordered as confirmed by the related department.

I exactly know what 10/100 mean but do you think I can argue that there is a division sign and not a multiplication so the speed is in fact 0.1 M?

BEWARE OF THIS SELLER AND DO NOT BUY FROM THEM!!!

    Cheers

"The related department has confirmed" lol maybe it was a typo. They asked the retarded department not the related department =)

    • +1

      Hahaha oh dear.
      What a b/s explanation.
      Did you get your refund?

      • +1

They labelled my inquiry as resolved. I opened a dispute through PAYPAL and escalated it to a claim. Still waiting for PAYPAL decision. I copied their b/s explanation to PAYPAL and hopefully they will refund my money.

        • Of course they did :|
          Yeah here's hoping

  • Is this essentially a range extender? I don't get wifi in my backyard beyond the first metre. Would this be good enough to extend it further? Could i stream video?

    • +1

Yes, but you would need to plug it in somewhere in the middle where you actually get the signal.

  • +1

Might grab one to improve WiFi in the dunny.

Worst experience buying goods from this vendor. Item was ordered on 25th of August and still waiting. On the other hand, they bombard my email box with rubbish advertisement, even though after I unsubscribed 3 times! If you are new to this coy, please be aware.

    • Dude you are dealing with a Chinese vendor here so set your expectations right, you can't expect your item to turn up in 2 weeks especially when you haven't paid for expedited shipping. I normally allow atleast 4 weeks from my orders from China.

    • +1

hi mate, apologize for your bad experience. about the Unsubscribe problem please check here.

    • +1

3-5 weeks I would call normal from HK and CN.

Newsletter issue is bad though. Users should not have to follow a page worth of instructions to unsubscribe. This is not reasonable

  • Anyone tested this unit?

Very mixed feeling about any extenders due to past experience. Mostly to do with smooth handovers, which never seem to happen. For XiaoMi, I will trust one last time
