Original 5% off Sitewide at eBay Deal Post

Feiyu Tech WG2 Wearable gimbal is suitable for most action cameras like GoPro Hero 5, Hero 4, Hero 3+ and Hero 3.

The Feiyu WG2 3-Axis Handheld Gimbal is now IP67 standard water-proof, which means you can dip it upto 1 meter of water and it will be operate as per parameters. WG2 allows you to capture stabilized, free-floating shots with your GoPro or similarly sized action cameras that are between 3.3cm and 4.6cm tall. It can be operated using a single hand. It also features 4 different operating modes for increased creative possibilities.

You can choose to lock the camera in place along all three axes (pan, tilt, and roll), or select modes where the camera will smoothly follow as you pan and tilt the handle. Switching between modes is done using a single LED push button on the handle, which flashes to indicate the mode selected.

Note that the battery is built in to the device, unlike some other models like the Zhiyun Rider M.. This may be somewhat of a limitation as the device ages and the battery wears out. Otherwise this unit has received great reviews for its performance and silent operation.

The next best price I can find from an Australian seller is $399 at Camerahouse.

  • I purchased one of the Zhiyun-Tech Rider-M GoPro gimbals a week ago while the PAINT 10% code was valid. So far I have been extremely happy with it.

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Zhiyun-Tech-Rider-M-Mini-3-Axis-H…

Its cheaper that the Feiyu-Tech model, very similar design and after doing my research, the general consensus amongst reviewers is that the Rider-M is better.

That being said, the Rider-M was designed for the weight of the GoPro 3/4. If you use the heavier GoPro 5, a community hack is to attach a small counterweight (one or two small coins) to the right hand motor for better stability during high impact sports such as mountain biking.

Here is a good review of its performance including a detail of the hack for a GoPro 5: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j5VTCS0D-l8

    • I know you can't really make this decision for me, but I'm actually looking at the Rider-M right now and I need to choose between the ebay link you just shared minus 5% and cashrewards, or $329 from an Australian seller (gimbals.com.au).

      What do you reckon?

What's the build quality like on your device? Any motor noise?

      • Nothing that I can hear, I will have to take some video myself and see if I can notice any noise in a recording, but I cant hear anything while its in use. Though most people still recommend you use an external mic just to be on the safe side.

In terms of the Ebay retailer, they sent it via DHL, so I received it within 3 days of ordering it. Impressive compared to the usual 3-4 week shipping time from Hong Kong.

Here is a redditor that did have some noise issues with his Rider M: https://www.reddit.com/r/gopro/comments/51butc/zhiyun_rider_…

You cant ever really be sure unfortunately in case you get a dud motor.

      • I did some more googling and again some people have issues and some people dont. Worth reading through the comments: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uol63uKjZVY

      • I can add my experience in. I have the Rider-M (the newer version - it's an updated box that shows the Hero 5 on it instead of the Hero 4 and comes with the Hero 5 bracket adapter).

I used it a lot while snowboarding in New Zealand and I can tell you that the motor noise is definitely there. I have not tried adding a counter weight as FuRyZ suggested so I do not know if that will help.

From the video reviews I've seen the Feiyu WG2 also produces motor noise though it doesn't appear to be as bad as the Rider M. However, something to also consider are the other features such as water proofing and support. Anecdotally, Feiyu seem to have nightmare level customer service, though I don't think Zhiyun are much better. People seem to rate Evo gimbals as having the best support and their wearable SS model is praised quite highly. That being said, the SS model is just supposed to be a rebranded Rider M. In addition, the Rider M is not fully waterproof - it has exposed ports and if you think you'll be near water, you might want to opt for the WG2. That being said, my Rider M held up just fine in the snow and still works fine.

One thing I did notice with the Rider M is that after a lot of use the mounting bracket scratches the bottom and top of the gopro if you do not fully unscrew the bracket.

I think you're pretty safe with either option. The WG2 wasn't out when I purchased my Rider M, but if I was going to make my decision again, it would be difficult, but I would probably go for the WG2.

        • thanks for your input!

all things considered, I think I'll still leaning towards the Rider M as I just don't trust the builtin battery of the WG2 to be good enough if I'm going somewhere with limited charging opportunities, as well as in terms of longevity - as in the battery capacity remaining reasonable for several years.

I generally don't use the sound from the gopro very much anyway, so I don't think it will be much of a problem.

          thanks again.

        • I actually had no idea the battery was built in. That changes things a lot. Definitely a plus 1 for the Rider-M in that regard. The fact it comes with a spare set of batteries is an even additional plus.

You won't be disappointing, it's a solid device and the GoPro sound issue is from the GoPro side of things, not the gimbal as the Karma Grip isn't even perfectly silent either. Here's to hoping the GoPro hero 6 being announced at the end of this month fixes that.

        • Apparently the battery was built in to make it waterproof.

      • I finally had a play with my Rider M specifically looking out for noise. Its almost dead silent, so it sounds like I am one of the lucky ones in that respect. If I bring my ear right up next to it while shaking it, I can make out a very faint whirring sounds from the motors but none of the constant buzzing that others have apparently noted.

        • My gimbal itself is silent. The noise comes from playing the audio file back because the microphone sits right on the motor panel.

  • I was looking at this earlier in the week but I thought it looked a bit suss due to the price and the photo of the gimble is different from official photos from feiyu tech. Wonder if anyone else could comment regarding this.

    • As far as I can see, skytech is quite a reputable store based in Australia. If you bought it and there were any issues, it wouldn't be difficult to obtain a remedy.

  • Probably the more cost effect way to do this is to purchase the zhiyun smooth q for around $130 and then buy Gopro adapter.
