Hmm.. I don't seem to see the Sydney flights advertised.
yeah none from Sydney????
Sorry, fixed now.
Big + for the effort!
and now to wait for virgin's response… :D
can you fuel dump these flights?
Virgin are selling direct flights for $899, but only for travel in Nov:

Damn, I'll have to hold off for a 2018 trip - with a baby due in mid-May I might be pushing it!
To clarify - my wife will be doing all the pushing!
Didn't you have to push first ?
DONT yell TORPEDOES AWAY as you will get into strife
Are the 3rd party sites guaranteed? I've never heard of fly365 before but they're $70 cheaper than the quantas site.
I've booked with BYOJet and iFLY before and haven't had a problem, they send you a booking number straight away which you can enter in on the airline page and confirm
Fares nearly double if you want a simple thing like a seat selection (which you want when flying 16hrs with a partner). When did Qantas become a discounter? :(
If you book together and don't select seats early you'll still be seated together. You just don't get to choose where you'd sit together.
But it is still not guaranteed, at all, or is it? Right now there are 6 seats left for dates I want - is it still early enough? I am afraid it is not.
Six spots, not seats, I'd 99% wager. Just check in 24hrs before online and you'll be golden.
Which dates are you planning on travelling?
You are right - its not guaranteed and depending on other flight cancellations / time of arrival to check in etc you may be separated. I have had this happen once in about 30 flights with Qantas. Also the amount of spots means nothing … its just to either a) get you to purchase the seat or b) the amount of seats left at the cheapest level.
6 seats in that fare bucket, so 6 seats left at that price. When those seats are sold, it moves onto the next fare bucket, and the price jumps up a bit. There's not 6 seats on the entire plane. If you really don't want to pay to select your seat, as long as you aren't an army of 20, I'm sure you'll be seated together just fine.
Bit of an exaggeration! It's over $900 and seat selection is what, $35 each way? $900 plus an extra $70 isn't exactly double! :) Don't have to pay for anything else!
Ah, so it is still possible to take the cheapest fare and get a desired seat for 35$? Nice. I thought I needed to take the next level ticket.
Of course. If you pay full fare you get the seat allocation for free. If you buy sale fares, they charge you $35 (per flight, per person) for seat selection, should you want to do it earlier than 24 hours out.
Booked PER - LAX return this morning direct with Qantas and then put in a Price Promise claim. :)
Same here -I tried that for the first time. Had to install a little clock extension on the browser for the time stamp - i hope they honour that.
How about this for ridiculous - i used my new Qantas Ultimate Amex, and still got slugged with a 1.7% card fee. On a QANTAS BRANDED CARD??!
Yeah I used my Qantas Amex too, and have used ANZ Qantas Visa in the past. Always get slugged the fee. :(
Not sure about the clock extension though - I just close everything else on my computer and screen cap the entire thing, taskbar and all, so the time is on that. They've accepted it every time.
I put in 2 Price Promise claims this week for flights quoted on Best Jet and both were approved.
I am not seeing a sydney return from $929? When i put in dates eg 30 march - 5th april it comes to $2009 total price..
Nooooo :( my vacation to L.A will start on 25th October. One week off! Darn!
as long as you don't need to take another hop somewhere in the US, these flights are cheap. The internal US flights though, especially for November are not cheap with Thanksgiving at the end of November.
True. First half of Nov is still okay, but if you are in the 2nd half, you're in trouble.
Nice prices for direct flights (from BNE and MEL at least)
