Windows 10 Stuck on Automatic Repair

Hi guys,

I have HP pavilion DV6 laptop with 8GB RAM, 32GB SSD and 500GB HDD with windows 10 installed. Since last 2 days suddenly laptop is looping into windows 10 automatic repair. I tried system recovery, system restore (ended up in 0X180000204 error) and disable some settings via BIOS but none of them working. Last option is to get it booted via USB/DVD. Unfortunately i do not have any other laptop to create bootable DVD/USB. Can anyone help to fix this?
Last solution would be to buy a new windows 10 DVD to reinstall it.
Thanks

Could it be an issue with not enough space on your 32GB SSD after a Windows Update?

do you happen to work in the Melbs CBD?

I'm just gonna throw some options for you not knowing the full extent of your issue or what happened but here's some ideas

Try booting into Advanced Start up

Press F11 repeatably when turning on the laptop. Then go into Troubleshoot and

select System Restore and choose a working known date (2 days ago I guess)

if that doesn't work, go back into Advanced Startup on next reboot and select the command prompt
    try the following commands,

    sfc /SCANNOW
    bootrec /RebuildBcd
    bootrec /fixMbr
    bootrec /fixboot

reboot and hopefully this fixes it

    • Could that fix the windows 10 black screen problem?
A friend had their laptop that would boot up to a black screen with only a mouse and my mums computer did the same.
The friend ended up taking it to the computer store and they fixed it for $100
I just kept resetting my mums computer trying to boot it into safe mode but couldn't get it to work and eventually it started up as normal.
If it happens again I want to know how to fix it

No, a broken or missing boot config data file will get you a blue screen specifically mentioning the BCD.

The Windows black screen is caused by Windows thinking you have a second screen and extending to it. If you can blind log in (hit spacebar after load and type pass and enter even though screen is blank) you can fix it. You can set the screen priority in safe mode too, Im not sure if it sticks tho.

        • My mums computer requires no log in, it also has dual monitor setup.
Why did it fix itself after it restarted multiple times?

@Hirolol: Lucky Mum! The pc may have updated itself with the patch while turned on. It was a common problem, and usually only happens now on a fesh install before updates.

  • Thanks guys. A colleague agreed to make a bootable USB drive for me. So I'll try it.

    • Hi there,

If the bootable USB drive does not help, please write to [email protected] for us to assist.

      Thanks

      • Wow, i did not know HP Support exist on Ozbargain. Thanks a lot.

  • That happened to me too yesterday. Windows Servers are down too, making transfering activation impossible afterwards. Basically shut it down everytime the pc stops responding, eg: the load wheel stops spinning AND the pc has no hdd activity, and restart the process, if the wheel is spinning wait it out. It took 7 hours to finally instal for me. Also check the disk format. I got to key screen the first time after a long while, just to be told i had the wrong format.

Anyone can make a usb bootable windows. go to Microsoft choose your system and download as usb, you dont need to pay them, but it wont run without a valid key.
