New Kia Sportage GT Sunroof Problem Advice

I have a new 4 month old Kia Sportage GT line and for the last few months I have noticed a plastic sounded rattle at the front of the sunroof.

I have taken it to my local dealer on three occasions to be fixed, with the most recent last Thursday with the Foreman who confirmed the rattle during a test drive, but the rattle is still there. On all three occasions they said they had lubricated all the sunroof rubbers and retensioned screws which have made absolutely no difference.

My question is, should I persist with this dealer to fix the problem, take it to a different Kia service centre near by or wait for its 15,000 service. I have been told worse case scenario is the whole sunroof would have to be removed at great expense to the dealer which they will try to avoid at any cost. I am reluctant to take it back for a fourth time cause they might do exactly the same as before with no improvement.

Thanks in advance.

Your warranty is with Kia, not the dealer.
The dealer ordinarily would "profit" from warranty repairs.

Most car manufactures/importers will automatically pay their dealers to conduct warranty repairs of certain items. Some items require special approval.
If you have a persisting issue with your vehicle that has not been resolved, keep requesting it be repaired until, a) they find a resolution or b) you cant deal with it any longer.
If you reach b) push the issue back to Kia Australia's customer service.

  • You've taken it back 3 times. As per Australian law you are entitled to your money back now. Don't wait for the next service take it back again and ask politely but firmly for a replacement car.

I wouldn't settle for removal of the sunroof…

You need to email and CALL Kia Australia and if that doesn't work post publicly on their Facebook page. Don't swear and carry on like a pork chop but be firm and express your disappointment.

Seriously? When they laugh you out of the service department then what, Supreme Court action? Why not call Kia's customer service team and ask for them to contact the dealer to seek a resolution in the first instance.

Lol replacement car for a noise? Good luck with that one.

    • Needs to be a major problem to get a refund. Noisy sunroof is repair only

      • Given they've attempted to repair 3 times now they could make a pretty good case for a refund…

        • Less stamp duty, registration costs (as these are a government charge that aren't issued by the dealer).

Though I'm quite sure the OP would just rather get their sunroof fixed

    take it to another dealer

they might have more luck - or sell it to knick007 and he/she can get a full refund

    • I think taking to another dealer is the best bet.

  • Does the rattle stop if you push against the area where the rattle is coming from?

    • Yes, if I push up hard against the front of the sunroof frame close to the noise, it stops. They already know this though.

cut a wooden broomstick to correct length and jam it in there = feature timber

  • As others have stated, you will need to escalate this beyond the dealer. Reaching out to KIA's FB page may help, but calling their customer support may be better. Ensure to mention relevant Australian Consumer Law legislation relating to your issue. Be polite, but be clear about what you want… which is to have the issue fixed properly.

  • Maybe it's not the sunroof but near it, say ceiling mounted lights or switches and when you push near the sunroof it also puts pressure near the real problem?
