      Da #&%?

    • +19

      Calm down brah, it's just a power bank.

      • +2

        LOL, point taken… I'm juz sayin'… the LCD readout is quite reliable on a unit of reasonable quality these days, so I don't know why peeps would settle for the oldskool '4 LED' readout/power-status system, particularly in situations such as travelling etc. where the difference between 24% and 4% might actually be quite important/of very practical/real relevance.

        • +8

          well, when you're gonna travel, you'd be damn sure to charge it fully anyway?

          and if you're already on the road… 24% or 4% isn't gonna be a difference cos you'll be praying to the battery god to use up every last drop…

        • -2

          @lammi:

          What I'm alluding to is situations where you may have a couple of them, and you are on a long flight or trip of some other kind, and you don't want to be guessing as to whether any of your units are 'almost a quarter full', or 'almost completely dead'. Having more accurate information in hand re actual charge remaining also helps in situations where you need to decide which one to use for what purpose, and it is also useful when deciding which one/s should be charged further, before 'treking off'.

          Off course, in an ideal world you would 'embark on your travels' with all of your power-banks fully charged, and everything would be fine and dandy/there would be no need to know whether one had 24% charge and the other only had 4%, or one had been charged back up to 74% while the other was only at 51%. When actually traveling in some regions, the reality is very different. This information becomes important.

        • @lammi:
          As I've said, if you just have one unit and you are simply 'hoping for the best', then obviously you charge it to the max whenever you can (but the time it will take to do this becomes unquantifiable when your 'charge-remaining' readout is limited to quartiles). If your PB (or PBs) actually reports how close it is to 'dead' (or how close it is to 'fully charged'), you can use it/charge it more effectively/conveniently AS NEEDED… it takes out the 'guess-work'.

        • @lammi:
          or dont even buy a powerbank, use your phone economically. your logic would bring a discussion to nowhere.

      • OP is a 'half empty' kinda guy. Nothing wrong with that. Jez a diff way of looking at the world.

    • If you'd rather an LCD over fast charging, then I guess the Romoss would be a better deal. As far as I can see the Romoss doesn't have QC 2.0.
      Depends what you want in a power bank.

      • 'Depends what you want in a power bank.'

        Well said/I guess that is the bottom line of it, but it is not a 'brand-specific' thing… and despite all the negging above, I can assure OzBs that once you've bought a decent quality PB with an LCD readout of %charge remaining, you will never buy one with 4 little (comparatively cryptic/uninformative) LED lights on it again. Imagine if your phone was only capable of reporting that it was '> 75% charged, 50-75% charged, 25-49% charged, or < 25% charged'… Would you be happy with that?

        • Imagine if your phone was only capable of reporting that it was '> 75% charged, 50-75% charged, 25-49% charged, or < 25% charged'… Would you be happy with that?

          Luckily a power bank and phone are different things so they can have different properties!

        • I am amazed at all the negative votes that you have received. I suppose they were given by xiaomi fans. I've got power banks by xiaomi, anker, and suaoki and I agree with your display preference.

          If there was a power bank with a lithium-polymer battery AND supported quick charging AND had a percentage display, then that should be the preferred product. I guess we will have to wait for such a product to come.

        • -1

          @kahn:
          Chuckle, thank you kindly Kahn, at last I hear a 'voice of reason' through the mist! I also have numerous PBs of various descriptions/capacities/qualities/etc., so I am speaking from experience, not just pontificating… Don't worry though, I don't care an ounce about the negs… within a year or two, even the most staunch neggers will 'get' the point I am trying to make here (and it is not a complex one).

    • +3

      Yeah people are right if they're saying it's hard to calculate the % remaining just from the voltage (that's why the 4 bars aren't even that accurate lol), Li-on batteries voltages don't change much as they discharge. The only accurate way is to use coloumb counting to estimate amount of charge in a battery (like your phone does) but this requires more specific circuitry which adds to the cost.

    • Would 10 LEDs be better?

    • You could put a CPU in a Power bank to get an accurate LCD read out of of battery life.

      Your power bank LCD isn't accurate/'reliable'. You can see a 4% error as a consumer with a constant draw. You have implied other usage makes the LCD useless. Accurate ('reliable') and usable if you use it only one way are two totally different concepts.

      The weird thing is the last 25% charge of a battery is significantly easier to monitor. There should be no error in the last quarter unless the power bank is fudging it's reading. For most consumers, like yourself, these fudges would be good enough. I prefer the more accurate minimum level of charge that Xiaomi uses, but that is my preference.

      You are right, 'to claim that it is NOT TECHNICALLY POSSIBLE [for LCD battery read outs] to be reliable [is] complete BS.' But your power bank isn't accurate. It makes no sense to put $10 worth of electronics in to a power bank so it's battery life read out is accurate like your cell phone for a price appointed customer like yourself.

  • Just a note for trying to get these through customs for international deals - Customs have really started blocking these from coming in.
    Stupid thing is, it's unsafe to fly with them but they made it here safely to be veto'd in the first place! #stupid
    at least I got a refund :)

    • +1

      Not entirely sure if you're warning about travelling internationally with these, or if you are warning about the potential perils of ordering these from OS. If it is the latter, then your comment would be irrelevant in this case because the post states 'Australian stock'.

      • +1

        Yep just a warning to everyone. Those who think shopping around overseas to save $4 might want to think twice about it not being delivered!

        • Got it. :) Wise words.

        • last time i heard these rumours, my previous powerbank got delivered to me successfully.

        • @baldur:
          That upsets me because Tomtop assured me it couldn't be delivered and was returned to them from AU customs

        • @rakeycakey:

          yeah most of them got returned. Just like anything else customs is hit and miss.

        • @rakeycakey:
          I got my order rejected from TomTop as well saying the same thing. However ordered the exact same thing through Banggood and it arrived! Took about 7.5 weeks though!

        • I recently ordered one from Gearbest.
          Took just over two weeks to arrive, and the package had an Australian postmark on it.
          (Plus an Australian sender's address)

        • @rakeycakey: Yep I got the same from TomTop and funds refunded.

    • +3

      Just came back from overseas.. vietnam.. hong kong and japan … no issues.. not even a question.

    • +1

      Blocking them why? The heck is wrong with our custom?

    • Im not so sure, I recently bought these from another deal and it was shipped from China, got it today.

  • And also what is the issue with travelling internationally with these? these are 77wh and the limit is 100wh unless I'm mistaken?

    • I have traveled on some airlines that (seemingly nonsensically) limit the NUMBER of what they call 'spare batteries' you can travel with, rather than the net charge of them… and others that incorporate 'impossible-to-interpret' restrictions on the charge/number of such units you can travel with/where they must be placed/etc… it's an 'evolving field', it seems, and the airlines are yet to decide on what should/shouldn't be allowed/why/why not/where/etc.

      I suppose if you were planning a few international plane trips and wanted to bring one or more of these things with you, the safest option might be to check with them first as to exactly what is/is not allowed, and carry some evidence of their reassurances with you. It would be bad if they decided to 'confiscate' your unit, due to some sort of subjective interpretation of their regulations/instructions'terms-n-conditions…

      • Erm… below this comment I see 'Comment unpublished. (Resolved)', attributed to my name. This is very odd?!? It makes it seem like I made a comment and then retracted it or sommat like that, when in fact that is not the case. What is the meaning of 'Comment unpublished. (Resolved)' in this particular case?

        • Did you comment that the description was wrong? I see it was fixed from 10000 to 20000.

          Comments can be unpublished by moderators to avoid confusion about things that are already fixed.

        • -1

          @Lukian:
          Yeppers, I pointed out that contradiction/glaring error in the post. I'm glad to see it has now been 'fixed', but I don't think it is appropriate that my post alerting the OP to the problem is represented as an 'unpublished/resolved' comment made solely by me. It kinda' suggests that I made a silly/misguided/incorrect comment, and then decided to retract it, or that one of my posts was deleted by the admins following consultation… (as if I swore, or was rude to someone, or something akin to that) whereas in fact none of those things apply. It would be best just to actually leave the comment there/ACKNOWLEDGE that the original post contained an error (so that anyone who was misled buy the original incorrect post was not subsequently misled onto thinking they had misread it), OR just delete all evidence of the fact that I alerted the OP to the glaring error. Via either of those routes, I would be less likely to be interpreted as a trouble-making psycho by my fellow OzBers… The former option is better/more responsible/accountable though, because it ensures that anyone who saw the incorrect initial post can actually be assured via information available on the site/in the thread that they were not mistaken; the post was wrong. Simply changing the information in the main post and deleting a comment pointing out the error/s that the original version of it contained (or changing it to 'unpublished/resolved') is not appropriate.

        • -1

          @GnarlyKnuckles: maybe you should make a post on the forums about it.
          Sounds like a very big issue to you mate.

        • -1

          @Hirolol:
          Some peeps actually care about how the site runs/the 'user experience' and want to contribute to improving that moving forward, into the future… other users could not give a rat's about that/just wish to use the site solely to save themselves money. I trust that you understand the difference between the two types of users? Crudely bagging out users who offer constructive/well-worded criticism is not a way forward. Perhaps you should focus on working on a FOURTH post in FIVE YEARS, rather than doing that? 'Mate'.

        • +3

          @GnarlyKnuckles: come on man.
          What's the the massive replies.

        • @Hirolol: 'Come on man'… erm.. WTF (short enough for yer? ;) )

    • +1

      How did you calculate these at 77wh?

      • +1

        Formula is (mAh)*(V)/1000 = (Wh).

        20000 * 3.7 / 1000

        = 74kWh.

        They might be 20800 which would be 77kWh.

        • 20000 is in mAh so answer should be just 77Wh.

        • @k0ka2: are the internal cells a little higher than 3.7V then?

  • As per above, how to people go with flying into China with these? I know the limit in China is 20000mah, 100wh, but does it have to be under this limit? Or this limit and under?

    • +1
      China airports are quite restrictive eg. Bejing airport advices of the following:

      Power bank and lithium battery is not allowed in checked luggage, but is allowed in hand luggage with the following conditions (lithium battery for electric wheelchairs is otherwise provided):
      1. With complete and clear label and rated energy no more than 100Wh;
      2. Battery with rated energy more than 100Wh and no more than 160Wh must be approved by the airlines. Each traveler can carry no more than two such batteries.

  • +1

    No powerbank in checkec baggage is the norm these days pretty much everywhere

    • +1

      China airport security is very strict in enforcing the policy. I have personally seen passengers having the extra batteries/powerbank over the two limit getting them confiscated (they do however allow you to choose which two to keep lol). Also if your powerbank do not clearly state the capacity that is, mAh rating plus nominal battery voltage (this is normally not stated on older powerbanks) or Wh, it may also be taken off you (depending on the mood of the officer and the size of the device). I have a sellotape over my label to prevent the wordings being rubbed off :-).

    After receiving all the inexplicable negs at the start of this post, I conducted a good 'old-fashioned' actual experiment just to reassure myself that I was not crazy. I charged up a (~1.5-year-old) Romoss unit with an LCD 'remaining charge' readout fully, and used it to power a cheapish tablet playing a constant looping video. It ran the tablet/vid steadily, and the charge read-out went down incrementally/'reliably'/steadily over time. When the Powerbank was down to 3% (as shown on the LCD display), the tablet reported that it no longer had sufficient power and turned itself off. So it seems to me that peeps are either just negging because other peeps have negged, or they are negging based on out-dated knowledge/experiences that no longer actually apply. Anyways, no biggy… I just thought I'd mention it/provide this 'update'.

    Peace out.

    • Hold on, the powerbank had 3% charge and not only was it not charging the tablet at that point (understandable), but the tablet had also run out of it's own battery and so turned off? I don't understand how that is good.
      I would have expected the powerbank to charge the tablet until it was empty and then the tablet would run down it's own battery.

      What is going on here, just slow charge from the powerbank that wasn't keeping up with how fast the tablet was draining?

    • you have too much time on your hands mate. Don't worry about negs - They are rarely based on fact or logic. Just a passive aggressive way for keyboard warriors to vent. Welcome to the interwebz!
