Residential Dog Training in Brisbane - Does Anyone Have a Recommendation?

I am currently seeking a residential dog training provider in Brisbane.

Our intended format is to place our (already reasonably well-trained) dogs in the hands of a qualified and skilled dog trainer that utilises reward-based training. The aim is for the trainer to, over the course of a residential stay with the trainer/centre, fully address some mild behavioural issues that we have been unable to crack ourselves despite significant effort, such as leash pulling and undesirable barking. At the end of the stay there would be a handover back to us, to enable us to continue reinforcement of the new and improved behaviours.

I've done the usual Google searches and can see a few providers that have this kind of service, but it's impossible to separate the good from the bad without an authentic recommendation.

Does anyone in the OzBargain community have any suggested providers of this type of dog training service in the Brisbane area that they would recommend? Centenary suburbs and surrounds would be preferred, but we're quite happy to drop the dogs off anywhere in the Brisbane metro area.

Thanks.

  • I have used Bark Busters in the past. The guy was very professional and had a structured approach. He came to our house and spent a few hours with us showing his training technique. It was a little on the expensive side (~$600) but got the council off our backs (issue was barking while we were not at home). They also provide a guarantee and will come back as many times as needed I believe. It seemed like he was training us more than the dogs but that was ok.

    • Thanks for the reply dogboy.

We have used Bark Busters in the past too, and they have certainly helped with some issues.

The in-home sessions have merit, but we simply don't have the time to have trainers keep returning to reinforce the behaviours. We're aware that our skills in this area are lacking, hence the ongoing issues. Our aim now is to use a residential provider if possible, to give some intensive training at the hands of a professional, to break some of the ongoing issues. Our two girls are good dogs, but are pretty stubborn!

  • We've had success with Cam day, not cheap, but good results

    Cheers

  • Wagtails at sumners park there are quite good, havent needed them in a couple of years but previously theyve been excellent

    • Thanks Japius.

We've now engaged Oz Wagtails, thanks for the suggestion. They're not quite what we were originally looking for, but they seem very professional and we're hopeful that they will help.
