This is Connoisseur Ice Cream we're talking about
Forgive him for he knows not what he says.
It depends what you want in ice cream. You can buy a 4 Litre Vanilla Coles Tub for quite cheap, or you can get a better ice cream for more.
Keeping in mind that ice cream is a treat however and supposed to taste good, that coles tub looks less and less appealing.yeah! also connoisseur ice cream is about 50% more dense. then you have to look at the ingredients, for example WW ice cream:
Water, Liquid Sugar (Sugar, Water), Cream and/or Milk Fat, Milk Solids, Maltodextrin (From Maize), Cocoa Solids (0.5%), Vegetable Emulsifier (471), Thickeners (410, 412, 407), Natural Vanilla Flavour, Natural Colours (160b).
main ingredient is water!! this is a rip off, but in connoisseur main ingredient is cream.
Cream (30%), Skim Milk (Concentrate or Solids), Sugar, Water, Wheat Flour, Glucose Syrup (Wheat), Vegetable Oil, Cocoa (1%), Dextrose Monohydrate, High Fructose Syrup, Vegetable Origin Emulsifiers [471 (Soy), 322 (Soy)], Flavours, Mineral Salts (500,503), Salt, Vegetable Gum (410), Corn Starch, Colour (160b), Antioxidant (319).
Keeping in mind that ice cream is a treat
Not really, it's one of the main food groups as it contains dairy.
Ok keeping in mind that ice cream should be consumed as a treat would be. That better?
Doesn't matter how much dairy there is it should still be a "sometimes" food. Unless it is Connoisseurs and then you are forgiven for eating the whole litre :)
what ice cream would you consider a bargain?
Bulla 'creamy classics' tubs are quite good, and so is Golden North.
Bulla is not even close to Connoisseur, more like icy cream than ice cream.
And just because there's something cheaper doesn't mean it's not a bargain, for $4.99 a tub I consider Connoisseur a bargain as it is a premium ice cream.
Creamy classics boysenberry is fantastic. Haven't seen Golden North.
I love bosenberry ice cream, no one except bulla does it anymore
I think Sara Lee use to do a rich version miss that
@Baghern: Golden North still do Boysenberry.
@Savas: Nice. Just the thing for an after Uni treat.
@Scab: Connoisseur is far from premium ice cream. there is much better available.. have not had it for years but Homer Hudson used to be great, very dense.
Didn't say it was the best.
Have you tried Bulla's Creamy Classics line though? It's twice the price of their "ordinary" line, and I find their Hazelnut CC very nice.
Personally I like Sara Lee ice cream or this when they are half price :)
Me too!! I think my favourite of theirs is strawberry. What's yours?
@Savas: Yeah the strawberry one is good, but I think its a tie for first for me between the rocky road overload and the ultra choc :)
This right here is the difference between someone who is simply cheap and someone who is a value hunter
Black & Gold ice cream is absolutely disgusting.
And this is still going for half price at Woolworths until Tuesday, just in case some of you might not know.
That's why I pick Woolies.
Next WW advertising campaign coming up!
WW advertising
This one is 1 cent cheaper. You can save a whole dollar if you buy 100 of them.
Well actually no, any true Ozbargainer would be purchasing anything at woolies using egift cards bought from cashrewards to save a further 5%…
Connoisseur needs to release a rum & raisin, with big plump drunk raisins, yum.
They won't do it again because that is not the flavour of the month. Salted Caramel with anything is.
For Rum and Raisin try the Woolies brand one $5 (always) for 1 Litre, its actually very good.
They won't do it again because that is not the flavour of the month. Salted Caramel with anything is.
What about Connoisseur pulled pork?
It's next to Connoisseur Gourmet Atlantic Salmon Ice Cream
Lol I can't possibly try to beat that!!
Connoisseur smashed avocado.
Still a rip off if you consider that Aldi's made in Spain ice cream costs 3.99/1L without any specials.
Personally I'd prefer ice cream made with fair dinkum down to Earth Aussie cow milk rather than noisy, smelly and hairy Spainish cow widows who's bulls are taken away to be speared and turtured to death in a bull fighting ring.
The cows here have their sons taken away and often destroyed with a sledgehammer to the head if that makes you reconsider.
Why buy made in Spain when made in Australia with Australian dairy is probably nicer/fresher/safer?
It's currently the same price at Woolies
Would someone be so kind as to PM this deal to member GregMonarch - I am sure he will appreciate it.
Thanks for the tears-in-my-eyes and snot-in-my-mouth muffled-laugh read.
Everytime I buy icecream from IGA it has that gross ice chunks in it that come from it been melted and then refrozen. It is the dodgiest IGA ever, I suspect they may even shut down the fridges for a period each night to save on power.
Or it could just be old stock, ice cream goes icy if it's been frozen for a while.
School excursion to IGA today, am glad i forgot my wallet….
This ice cream is getting really soft and air rated similar to cheap ice cream that tastes foamy. IMO hard ice creams tend to be higher percentage cream and more common in high quality brands. Point I'm trying to make is they seem to be dropping quality to reduce costs!
This brand has always been quite airy and generic to me. People buy it because of their marketing. Only people that would call this premium ice cream are those that have never tried a real premium ice cream. It is barely worth the $5 price tag and the regular price of $10 is laughable.
