What is the best e-reader out there at the moment? I was thinking of getting the new Kindle as the exchange rate at the moment is pretty good. Does anyone else have any other recommendations?

There is also the Cruz Reader which is actually more of a basic Android tablet than a reader. It has a resistive touchscreen (can watch movies and browse internet), an LCD screen, accelerometer, wifi and docking station. It's up for $199 USD.
gosh, i saw the old kobo is only $99, lot people bought it for almost $200 while ago, rit?
too bad..After doing my research, I got the Amazon Kindle. If you order e-books that are not in the format compatible for Kindle, you can just download the calibre eBook software that will convert them. Also, if you want to be able to get US released e-books at a cheaper price $$ from the Amazon website you can get around this by creating an Amazon account with a US mailing address.
I did a lot of research and decided on a Kindle instead of a Sony. Trade offs were:
Kindle:
- Free 3G internet across the world
- Wifi
- keypad instead of touch screen
- Stuck with Amazon Bookstore (which isn't fully open to Australia… for example, all the Margaret Atwood books weren't available for purchase from Australia, even though they're in the store).
- slightly cheaper
Sony eReader 650
- touch screen
- more open to different formats
- expandable memory
- no internet/wi fi
- slightly more expensive
I decided, because I was after it for travel, the Kindle was the device for me. But it was a line ball.
