    Free Entry

OzBargain meetup; Goal Square, 6pm sharp?

  • Getting into the MCG is going to be a pain unless you live nearby or are hanging around at the outside bar

Nah easy as. Especially if it involves GWS or 2 interstate teams which is a huge possibility. The post-match entertainment is likely to have more attendees than the game!

      • +7

Sounds like someone without much knowledge of who typically attends afl grand finals

        • Yep corporates and AFL members. I've been invited a few times to go along to corporate things by clients etc, I normally ask them if my team is playing and (because my team is useless) the answer is always no so I decline the invite. I'm not giving up a day off to go along and sit through somebody's sales pitch all day with the only distraction being made to watch 2 teams I hate fight it out for a premiership. I'd rather pay for my own beers at home whilst I do something else. Bring on trade week!

      • +2

In fairness, if GWS makes it the entire marketing and finance departments from AFL House will be there cheering them on!

Love the killers, my team didn't make finals so zero interest in the football game, wont even watch on TV. I wonder if you can just go to the concert or if you have to suffer through seeing the winners get their cup etc.

Lead singer is crazy mormon: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oZgIIeGnEXI

Couldnt care less about his religion, politics or anything else, just like their music!

      • +2

Yes! Their song 'Sweet Talk' for example- the song takes you on a journey through his personal struggles with his religion, and even though I don't agree with his religion I get to understand him on a deeper level. Which is the point of music.

        • Most profound post on OzB ever?

It'll be fantastic when a bunch of Triple M bogans, who only know 'Hot Fuss', start getting progressively more pissed off as Flowers starts singing "Are we human, or are we dancer?"

It's a + from me; even if this is only happening because Farnesy, Barnesy & Johnny Diesel weren't available.

  • Ughhh… Nova's favourite band.

    • Day & Age is actually a pretty good album. Hot fuss is so overplayed by mainstream radios though.

Be nothing to celebrate if Sydney get up…. shudders

Wish I was in Melbourne for this, free The Killers show is the dream.

  • +2

    Wouldn't mind seeing the Killers.

Then I remembered it's been genuinely almost a decade since they had a song I could really get into.

    • You Read My Mind.

      • Can't say I like any if their music, but why not keep an open mind and go? It's free, so if you end up leaving early you (probably) haven't lost much. YMMV.

        • I was planning to watch the grand final at Sam's Town. Jenny was a friend of mine who recommended it. Somebody told me it goes off on grand final day.

    • +1

Maybe we should get Meatloaf back…

  • The after match concert is one of the few things the AFL has got right in recent years

After the match finishes, you can just walk into the MCG and enjoy the show plus they have the Premiership Team come on stage at the end

Was a good experience last year with The Living End rocking it for the Bulldog bogans

This is a great idea. Even if The Killers aren't necessarily your bread and butter, a free international show at the MCG with premiers presentation all for free is brilliant. As much as I love my NRL, so often I'm jealous of our older cousin from Viccy…

  • Most matches at MCG, free access is allowed in the last quarter, usually.
So stroll in after last quarter starts, see the finish of the grand final, then enjoy the free concert, cool.

Good luck with that if the GF is a sellout.

      • Isn't it a sellout every year?

    • That's partly because they remove the turnstiles to allow quicker egress for the crowd. Considering people stay around after the GF a lot longer than most other matches I doubt you'll be able to see the last quarter of the GF for free.
