Businesses Responsible For Transport Fees When Returning Faulty Goods

So the ACC states

You are entitled to recover reasonable postage or transportation costs from the business if the product is confirmed to have a problem, so keep your receipts.

Has anyone here actually requested a business cover the cost of returning something small like a scratched movie? be that for petrol or public transport costs.

That's what I was asking, is there anyone cheap enough here to chase up their $3 worth of petrol or myki cost.

      • Or more specifically.

        Interesting.
I always thought of it as you're only able to recover costs if you live a significant distance away and you can't transport the product?

  • I bought a Jawbone Up during the Dick Smith closing down sale, died after 1 month. I had to pay return postage to the headquarters because they wouldnt take 'walk in's.

Interested to know what peoples thoughts on returning big bulky items bought on ebay sent from the other side of country - debating a cost of returning a broken chair atm.

    • If you paid via Paypal, you get free return postage.

      • The chair is pretty hefty, I think it ll go past the $45 threshold. Also too big and heavy for me to lug it to the post office myself and get packaging.

  • scratched movie?

    • Scratched DVD or Blu-ray disk?
