Mobile Phone Recommendations

Hi,
I am searching a mobile phone for a friend of mine. she can go up to 500 dollars. Aussie warranty is a must. Other than this, she is not fussed at all and doesnt have much knowledge about the phones, i reckon just it can be something worth the price and wont let her down.

Thank you very much in advance.

What Baldur said, but on the tighter end of the scale. What's the current day Y550 / Pixi 4.5? My Alcatel Pixi 4.5 ($35) keeps on unmounting the SDCard for no reason. Looks like it's dying (or maybe the SDcard, EVO, but it seems ok in a USB reader). Up to then the Pixi has been fast and smooth (I use an actual camera, not the phone as the camera is rubbish) and someone stole my Y550.

Needs to run AFL app, Shake and Win, all network bands. Cheers.

phones under $200 not sure if tight enough for you..

    • Xiaomi Redmi Note 4X (Grey, 16 GB, RAM 3 GB) @ Shopmonk for $135 dollars, really good deal but unfortunately it's expired

      • AFL app work? It doesn't work on my Pipo T9 as it thinks its a rooted device (ie I assume it is an Asian import and doesn't recognise it)

        • I don't have the exact phone, but I can try my Mi Max and get back to you.

Xiaomi's phones are all non-rooted and have their bootloaders locked by default. I would assume it would work so long as you don't modify the SW or flash anything.

        • @scrimshaw:I have a Redmi Note 4X… it is flawless, I prefer it to my Samsung other than the waterproof feature.

        • @scrimshaw: Cheers mate, I don't really know what a locked bootloader is, but I bought a Pipo T9 in 2014 (and it still has better specs than many phones today), has been great! But the AFL app will not run in 2017 (says rooted devices aren't supported or something like that). I have never done anything with it from stock, don't think it is rooted from the factory?

        • @tunzafun001:

There are apps out there that can check for Root status. Try googling Root checker. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jrummyapps…

If your phone is rooted, there could be ways to stop an app from detecting Root status.

          http://thehackernews.com/2016/08/chainfire-suhide-root.html

AFL app seems to work on my Redmi. So its fine if your phone is not rooted from the factory. If you buy a phone and it's rooted, that's a sign that the phone is not secure, might contain malware and it will not receive automatic updates.

        • @scrimshaw: Cheers heaps for the info. I'll either grab a Redmi 4x or a Vkworld V.
Whatever has the better network support. I'm a churn and burn prepaider, so need all Network support.

        • @tunzafun001:

my advice is don't buy unknown brands like Vkworld. Strongly consider Xiaomi instead

        • @scrimshaw: Hi mate, I installed root check and it says not rooted. Installed the Xposed framework and it says no root access…BUT installed the 2018 AFL app and again it says it can't be run on rooted devices! Argh..

      • it's still available but for $155 delivered.

that is still an excellent price

    • G5 is a great phone. I just dont fancy the battery life, but it has some water resistance.

Depends on the screen size… Redmi Note 4X (about $250) or Mi Max 2 (about $350). Both have excellent battery life… one of the best in the market. You can buy the warranty add on for $50 which covers you against accidental damage for the 1 year and 6 years warranty from Ebay. I have been using the Note 4X for nearly 6 months now… and just ordered a Mi Max 2. If you have any questions just ask me.

A little cheaper if you use the 10% off code on their eBay store http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Sony-Xperia-XA1-Ultra-6-0-23MP-4G…

  • Nokia 6…does the job I have it for few months now.. it's now available in Australia. Price is around $400.

  • Sell ya 5 x iphone 5c's for $50. Think of it as one for $50, and 4 extra as warranty :)
