Office Chair Recommendations ($140- $260)

I need a new desk/office chair for home use.

I'm kinda in a rush to get a new one ASAP, current one has crapped out & hurting my back.
Also have a bad back (disc prolapse L5/Lower lumber - old injury).
I also can't adjust my desk height.

What would be the top 5 chairs you would buy (within price range)?
The Buro Metro Task Chair seems to get good comments. Any others?
I will invest in a better chair, when I can afford it, but cant now.

Any dealt with Adco/melbofficefurniture/nepeanofficefurniture/jkhopkins?

I'm looking for;

1> Priced around $200 or under ($250ish max), low on funds.
2> Feedback/opinions on brands/models/stores.
3> Sturdy/heavy duty, as I'm around 110kg, for 10+ hours usage every day.
4> Local (Melb) store, to try them out, If possible and 2+ years warranty.
5> Prefer mesh back? (for summer), but noticed comments about dust mites (hard to clean/remove?).
6> I guess a low/mid back, as I'm not tall. Good adjustment options. Not sure about arm rests.
7> The sooner I can get it, the better, within 7 days, hopefully.
8> Any eBay stores that are trusted and worth looking at?

This is also asked on Whirlpool, but only 1 reply so far.

Any current deals/sales on or stores I should check out?

TL:DR Feedback/Recommendations around $200 or so.

  • I'm in the same boat but as I'm 6'5" every chair has a "headrest" jammed between my shoulder blades which is horrific for my posture, I spend way too much time sitting in a chair so I really need to find a good one.

  • Check out https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=1620586, it's a long & oldish tread (with some new postings), I had a quick look thru it myself, but am in a rush to get a chair.

    You may find some good opinions, if you have the time to read thru it.

    • +1

      I'm in that thread. Still using the Buro Metro I bought 6 years ago and still like it. I ditched the hand rests within a few months.

      I've got a couple of planks of timber under my desk to raise it up about an inch, makes a big difference for me. I've also raised my monitor by sticking it on an old motherboard box to give me an extra couple of inches height. Getting your desk setup right is a good idea and there's nothing wrong with doing it on the cheap.

  • Been using this guy for a while now, pretty happy with it;

    Headrest is still good for me and i'm approx 6'2"

  • @ ProggerPete

    I have a great monitor & laptop stand that I can adjust (HP - thanks to OZB), but my crappy monitor has all the connections horizontal (pointing out, not down), which hits the stand, which reduces how high I can adjust it. The stand is like a Z configuration.

    The Buro Metro had mostly positive comments, but did have a few negative ones too.

    I don't think my desk height is too bad, hoping the new chair has more adjustability then current one, if not, will have to get a new (cheap) monitor to solve that issue. Plus my current chair keeps sinking & padding is stuffed.

    I will check Office works and Adco, which are close to me (Melb), to get a better idea of chair specs that I need to look for.
    But I'm still looking for advice.

  • get a used Herman miller, steelcase or haworth. Those are BIFL ones
    try gumtree

    great chair. if you had smudge more, you could grab a Herman if you're a good negotiator
