Paying off a David Jones American Express with Another Credit Card?

Hi everyone,

Has anyone tried to pay off their David Jones American Express card in store with another credit card? The David Jones website states the following:

"You can pay your David Jones American Express Card account in any of the following ways:

Pay in person by cash, EFTPOS or cheque at any of the following:
Any David Jones store in Australia
Australia Post Office*"

Any fellow rewards card holders had any experience with this? I am wondering whether these transactions are limited to Cheque or Savings accounts only? If not, there is an opportunity to double dip on some points…

Thanks!

Most CC cant be paid using another CC
If they do allow you to do it, almost every cc in aus will charge you the cash advance interest rate for that payment (on the card u used to make the payment)

  • Why would you want to do that. This would be considered as a cash advance and you would be charged from day one. This be the way of madness.

You can't pay off your David Jones AMEX with a credit card.

  • You can't payoff credit cards with credit cards in general, unless it's a balance transfer.

"EFTPOS" is Cheque or Savings only.

Whilst David Jones could accept a credit card for payment, they wouldn't want to do that as they would be charged a merchant fee.

There is no function for merchants to "consider" a transaction a cash advance.

I suppose you want to pay $50 on each amex card you have hoping to get the $20 credit for the vouge offer.

  • Don't some card companies offer free card balance transfer or something? Try to do that.

You can use your credit card to purchase David Jones Gift Cards. Then use the giftcard to repay the credit card. You can only repay in store with gift cards.

Call up any store and confirm this. I was a former employee in Sydney from 2014-2015

I can confirm that you can't pay your DJs account with David Jones Gift Card. It even says so on the back of the David Jones Gift Card …

  • Some info from my CC providers FAQ page:

You can pay most, if not all, of your bills with BPAY – there are now over 14,000 bills that can be paid using BPAY. Your bill will have the Biller details next to the BPAY logo. You'll be unable to make payments to some Billers:

You can’t make a payment to another credit provider, including other credit or store cards, or any type of loan.

Some Billers don’t accept payments from credit cards at all.

Other Billers, such as Telstra, will allow you to make a BPAY payment from your card, but it will be charged as a cash transaction. This means that you'll be paying interest at the cash advance rate immediately, and the cash advance fee will apply - see Rates, Fees and Charges, located under My Account. We’ll notify you before your transaction is complete if a cash advance fee applies so you can choose whether or not to continue with the payment.

I am sure it's the same with most, or imagine the rewards you could rake in, paying off CC's with an other & vise-a-versa.
