Best Way to Sell a VW Golf Alltrack That I Won in a Recent Competition

I was really lucky to win a VW Golf Alltrack 132TSI Premium, 6 speed DSG With added Driver Assistance Package and added Sport Luxury package,
Valued at $43,190.00 in a Sydney Swans Competition. Its a great car but it is way more expensive than I would ever purchase.

We are going to sell it and buy a new Kia Cerato (was going to get a Hyundai I30 Wagon but they don't sell them anymore).

It's a great position to be in and would love to get some ideas of the best way to sell the VW car. The car rego has not been transferred to my name yet.

Looking to get a good price for the car - any tips or ideas on how to get the best price for it and what price I should be realistically aiming to sell it for?

Should I get the car registered in my name and then sell it - the only issue is that the buyer will have to pay stamp duty of about $1200 plus another $450 in transfer fees or should I ask VW if they would just put it directly into the buyer's name. (thinking I might be able to sell it for more?)

  • You can ask if they will put it in someone else's name but I highly doubt this, which would leave putting in in your own name and then selling it privately. I would check the price of ex-demo models on carsales and then price somewhere between this and the value price depending on how urgently you want to sell.

    • Thanks for that. Not in any hurry to sell it.

  • Why not keep it? It's a free car

Its a lovely car but just way too much for what we would ever purchase for ourselves. Would rather get a car in our price range and use the difference to go on a holiday or pay off the homeloan!

Nice win! I wouldnt keep a VW either.
(My comment is pointless, Really just wanted to congratulate you)

    • Thanks for that.

ask the dealer who delivered it to you to sell it on commission

        they'll do it no problems

also as much as I like a free car i'd sell this too… you could better use $43k for just about any other purpose

How likely is it for OP to get anything close to $43k in cash?

        • @niggard: I was thinking I would get $35k what do you think would be achievable?

        • Thanks for the suggestion. Will ask them.

        • @twilsoncrow: I think it's achievable, but unless you're desperate for cash, taking the car would be a better deal IMO

I know someone that won a Lexus as part of a competition they sold it directly back to the dealer. Lost about 3-4k of the value. It was a 60k car

    • I will be happy to get $35000 anything above it will be great. Mind you the whole thing is amazing to have won

Someone I know who had won a car in competition - they went to the dealer that was supposed to deliver the car and agreed a deal with him. Prior to that, they checked with few other dealers in terms of what sort of price they will get from them so that gave them a benchmark to negotiate with the dealer delivering the car.

    • Thanks for the great idea

Yeah talk to the dealer. Just bear in mind obviously $43k includes stamp duty etc, so you're right that $35k+ is realistic

It is $35K more than I had last week!

  • i give you $25k cash tonight

    • Thanks for the offer. way too low.

      • I don't think that was for the car, I think you just won another competition!!

        • That would just be amazing!
