Trading/Selling eGift Cards?

I wondered if anyone has found a way to trade/sell e-gift cards without having to loose a high percentage. I have looked at Cardhub, but was turned off by this review: "Bait and switch - after going through process to list, received email informing me that unless I offered a 30% or more discount it would not be listed." I don't want to mess with Gumtree due to scammers.

    OzBargain Classifieds.

    • Thanks, I had a look and wondered if someone could rip me off if they paid with paypal?

Possibly. Could you also rip them off if you offer an alternate payment method?

      • You could look at their past posts, comments and transactions on OzBargain to get a general feel of their reputation. Not a guarantee but should give you a general idea.

        • I will do that. I also might make the egift denominations fairly low, like $20 or something. Not much to loose that way.

        • I'll chip in a bit to this.

Yes not a guarantee but it's a great rule of thumb. Have dealt with over 30 members here (mixed some have been around for long, some new) and have been all smooth except 1.

I have however come across to 1 particular member, name not to be mentioned. He's been around for quite some time, mostly making comments in posts and never contributed in posting deals. PM-med me wanting to buy $500+ of Gift Cards, once I have them on hand, the person just stopped responding.

That's however only 1 in 30+ chance so far.

      • Check their history/ previous posts, how old their account is.

sold about five to six e-vouchers under $50 on here, no issues.

  • If you are so worried about it, maybe meet in person and offers cash as the only payment option?

I made countless transactions on gumtree and I always deliver. Gumtree is more risky though so better only offers cash on delivery or bank transfer.

I made few transactions (accumulated ~$500) on Ozbargain (both on Classified and via PM) and never had any issues. Better check the person's reputation before making a big amount transaction.

If you have gift cards worth a lot (e.g. $1000), better split into smaller amount (e.g. 10x$100) to avoid scam.

There was a user on here who wanted to sell a $100 wish card for $99. Total dreamer/wannabe schemer.

  • What type of gift cards are you wanting to sell, and at what discount?
You may not be aware but OZB will only allow you to sell a couple here or there. If it resembles some sort of business then they will shut it down.

    • I just wanted to sell the odd Coles or woolworths egiftcard. I sometimes have a few spare from doing surveys and online communities. I will probably do $20 for $17.25. There is no way I would have enough for it to become business-like.

      • Why don't you just use them yourself?

        • I do. I just don't spend much on fuel or food, so I have a build up of them.
