they only gave me $2 i should have waited …..:-(
1.50! beautiful grapes!!!!
At some point in the near future, google can be expected to release their version of the Echo Dot, with a real world price tag closer to $50-70. Unless you want the better speaker, it's probably smart to wait anyway.
Oh, and Amazon will probably launch their new versions of the Echo and Echo Dot in Oz as they open their store for trading; and if overseas discounts are anything to go by you can expect to see it for $45-50.
But Amazon services are far inferior to Google services go as far as a personal assistant and Google tool.
Better for automation and practical delivery. Though the lead they had is being chipped away at as the fail to deliver updates.
Keep doing what u doing shopmonk!
what sort of power pack ….. US so you can bend pins to fit australia or EU ?
AU power pack would be jackpot.
Fingers crossed it's an inline transformer with something like a figure-8 cable.
It's a custom connection to the actual unit, with a small custom Transformer plug. Most non-au imports will come with a simple multi-to-au plug.
Still don't know what to do with this device..
from the ads it can search stuff on google.
My phone does that already very well.
Then ask your phone :|
that really sums it up …. you get one if you don't want to ask your phone and the phone isn't always handy at home ….. my undies don't have pockets to carry a phone …… or you have it in your bedroom and you can ask questions without getting out of bed to reach for phone on a cold morning …….
@garage sale: …..
@garage sale: I sometimes tuck my phone in the side of my undies at home when have no pants on, nuddie run is far more problematic though.
@tryagain: Tried clenching?
They're useful for smart homes, controlling lights, temperature etc. You can also cast audio to them, or use them as a Bluetooth speaker. They can be crazy loud at 100%
Also useful for quickly adding things to a shopping list, making conversions, quickly adding events to your calendar etc.
If you have android 7.0 or above, and have Google assistant, you pretty much have lost features of a Google Home in your phone already.
Don't forget that you can DIY a smart home yourself on the cheap, hell.. depending you put the time in you can be even better than a 'retail' smarthome at literally a fraction of the price. If you don't spend thousands upon thousands getting new devices you can spend.. a couple hundred bucks for arduinos and assorted sensors (etc). Can even go one step better with Google Home and that setup by using your andriod phone and the 'tasker' app.
Options are basically unlimited with a setup like that.
@dfaktz: before you scare most people away with the tricky stuff (arduinos and Tasker), those who want to set up a DIY smart home without having the smarts can buy some stuff like the yeelights and such that can be easily controlled using IFTTT
Hold down loose papers when the windows are open?
I put my Apple to hold down loose papers when the Windows Pro is open.
And only 2.99 a Kilo at Colesworths
Why would ya hold papers in the electronic age? Did you buy the $9 Dell printer?
I did
You could google it.
I use it to turn on/off my tv, turn on/off lights, control my heater and play music mainly at the moment.
I just use the switch.
What will be the use of this device when you don't have wifi lighting, wifi connected speaker etc, other than mi box and ipad plus smartphone ?
well….my wife uses it as kitchen timer, music player, joke teller, fart blamer…so I guess my job is done
Fart blamer?
"OK Google, Who dropped the cheese?"
Best alarm ever.
An expensive alarm
Have you seen the latest deal for a DAB Sony alarm clock?
What have the Romans ever done for us?
Use it as a bluetooth speaker
Don't believe it has Bluetooth though…
The firmware update about a fortnight ago enabled Bluetooth and allowed pairing of Bluetooth devices. System firmware version: 93937.
I know someone who uses it a lot for music - just say 'play xxx' and it will
Of course it saves about 5 seconds over doing it on Spotify
That's not kids safe though is it?
If you have kids, then you can get them to open spotify for you.
But they cost more than $129.
(any searches or voice commands are linked to the account that's active. multiple accounts is a "wishlist" item, i.e. you'll need to tie it to a single google account on someone's phone, so that it can check calendar entries, store changes, etc. or tie it to spotify. regular music searches use google music typically.)
@toliman: play XXX :p
There's an option to filter out explicit songs
@DeepHorizon: Oh I give up
@Where's_That_Cake: best comment thread I've seen lol
You can ask it about your day ahead, weather, play music, ask questions..
You can ask it about your day ahead
You can just say "Good morning" and it'll go through daily planner, weather and news. After saying good morning back first :)
Any reviews guys? I've practically given up on Siri. Maybe I just sound weird.
I have a weird accent and Google understands me well. Siri "I don't understand…". It even understands my 3 year old. Also you have the world of Google search at your calling. "what's the square root of 92393" " Approximately 303.962" - useful. Good for playing music, telling stories, quizzes, home automation etc.
Still think that it and the Xiaomi IP cameras are potentially the start of 1984, but very clever bit of tech.
I've noticed Siri's capabilities have deteriorated over time from when I first got my 6s. I did a full factory reset last night, lo and behold she was working flawlessly again. Now to figure out which of the hundreds of apps are interfering with her :/
Have to question the validity of shopmonk stock according to them they have New Nexus 9 in all colours and LG Flex still in stock. I am calling BS!!
I dont know about the phone but bought Airpods from them last week, got it yesterday through DHL, Im impressed.
Have no idea what to use this for on daily basis :/
If they had a find my phone skill that'd be used daily.
If it had this function then I would also most definitely use this function daily too lol
Even better if it had a find my keys option 😂😅
You can use if this then that to find your phone from home. It also allows you to turn up the ringer from silent so you can hear it ring.
Ok google turn my phone off silent
Ok google ring my phone.
( There's probably a way to do both in one command too)
@scotteth:
Wow really???? Then I need this in my life!!!
@scotteth: didnt work for me, i am missing somthing?
@spriggan43: which not specifically? You need to install ifttt, then enable VoIP calling ( the direct phone calls only work in USA)

I have a lot of music already uploaded to Google Play Music on a free account, and the Google Home can access these and play my already curated music. I don’t have a subscription music service. But I do have a few Tiles and now it can help me find the items they’re attached to as well!
Even if you don't use it, Google asked that you leave it plugged in…
I use mine to play music when I get home from work, through my HiFi system (via Chromecast Audio). I also use it to remind me of things I have planned for the day when I get up in the morning, and ask it questions occasionally about all sorts of things. My nephews love playing games with it, and asking it questions also.
Another useless device in my house to listen into conversations and send them to the CIA - SOLD!
I think you mean the NSA. Why would they send it to themselves though?
I'll keep an eye out for tinfoil hats on special and post them here.
Just go Full Chuck McGill
Great price! Not sure if should get this or wait for the Sony LF-S50G.
The Sony is much better.
The name is stupid though.
I wanted to buy this but as I am traveling OS cannot signup to Shopmonk as it wants to send me an sms for confirmation. Sorry guys, no roaming so can't get it.
It really bugs me every time I travel how many companies don't have alternative ways of confirming things (like most of them) when you don't have access to everything. Bigpond for example gets annoyed sometimes if you try and send mail when OS. I usually do it via a VPN connected to Australia to avoid issues but if you forget it you can have problems.
MasterCard is good, when it wanted sms confirm and I said I didn't get it it asks for my birthdate and credit limit then just works. Shopmonk - don't rely on sms entirely please to confirm stuff!! Allow use of some other methods.
If you PM me I'll give you my number and we'll go through checkout together using my phone number as the confirmation if it helps.
Would have to do this tomorrow though as I'm about to hit the hay.
Thanks for the offer, appreciated! I won't worry about it for now, be home in a few days, if I miss this one there will be another deal soon for sure.
I have requested to fix this but I don't think there is a quick fix for this. It will be done ASAP.
Thanks for the reply.
Happy to help out with a number tonight too if you want to PM me.

Where are you travelling that you can't receive an SMS?
Absolutely turn off Cellular Data, but you should still be able to receive SMS messages for free?
Usually nothing unless roaming enabled.
Depends on who you're with, many of the resellers/MVNOs don't allow any roaming at all.
Oh right. Bummer.
I am in South Korea currently, previously Japan. Roaming was turned on in Australia (Aldi via Telstra) but neither of the phones I have seems to want to roam (or the Network is not allowing it) . I can make emergency calls so I have one or more bands talking. I am not getting any sms's. I was previously in rural Hokkaido and now in the Seoul mega-city.
Does this come with an Australian power plug?
At this price going to say no, lets hope for the China or US pluge.
Power plug is optional.
Oh really? What is it USB or something?
its a somthing
What method of delivery does shopmonk use
Caesarean I think. Or DHL.
Only if you have private health insurance 😄
Prefer the $50US Fabriq myself; uses Amazon Alexa API, minus the spying.
link?
TekSyndicate have a decent review of it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=03NXtlgBoMQ
When can I buy a Google device to implant directly into my brain to read my thoughts?
