Did it Buffer?

Well….did it?

Watch in Native 8k! I've got NBN Wi-Fi FTTN 100/40 - Been loading for about 4-5 mins…only have the first 3 seconds of footage that has buffered!

Crazy to see some people in the comments claiming they are watching this seamlessly - Makes you wonder where in the world they are and what it would be like using their internet!

My CPU however is at 100% usage and struggling bigtime.

  • Tpg adsl, no buffering whatsoever.

i doubt its got to do with your connection, more than likely its ram/cpu.

    I got 64gb ram and 3930k

For those saying no buffering, Youtube auto selects resolution …. So did you force it into 8k? or just play the auto selected version?

    South Korea

  • It played flawlessly on my 2014 Medion PC. Time to investigate Tony Anderson's music.

  • on telstra cable 115mbps down. 8K buffers like hell, Though might be because of my hardware.
4K is amazing and very immersive. Thanks for sharing that video.

  • I get 250mbps down on Optus 4g whilst at work. Didn't buffer.

Curious if people are actually setting it to 8K or are just clicking play?

    • Just clicking play, but even in 1080/60 its a nice vid.

By default, many PCs won't even offer 8k in Youtube if you don't use Chrome. That's because Edge, for example, will disable the VP9 codec if your device doesn't support hardware acceleration - which is most people. You can change this setting to always on in about:flags. It uses much more power and you'll probably skip frames.

You can see your download rate by right-clicking in a Youtube video and selecting stats-for-nerds. If your internet connection can't sustain a Youtube video (in particular) at 22 Mb/s you'll have buffering. I don't know if Australian ISPs throttle Youtube but a high-speed VPN that achieves higher speeds could indicate so.

But even lower resolutions generally look impressive after down-sampling from an 8k source.

  • at 4k my computer is reporting its downloading at about 45 mbit down, 1.21 up, tried to increase to 8k, downloads dropped to 23mbit and was buffering after every 5 seconds. Could be a CDN issue maybe their 8k hosted video isn't mirrored on a optus server.

on Optus 100/2 Cable Speed Testing at Approx 75-85mbit atm NON NBN

edit: used stats for nerds to see download speed and it went up to 52000 kbps, router could have been reporting wrong dl at 8k
