I think its time to upgrade to a newer technology. Assuming this is a video you want to keep, maybe get it transferred to a digital file you can store in the cloud?
thanks, i've only got one copy of it. once repaired and ripped onto a hard-drive, it will make life a lot easier
You can do it yourself in about 2 minutes. Brasso (metal polish) and a cheap microfibre cloth works best, but toothpaste works fine.
Google "repair scratched CDs" or similar if you want further details, but that's it, basically. They used to sell machines/kits, but they just do the same thing, and not necessarily as well.
Once upon a time Video Libraries had these machines.
Some local council libraries may also have these.
Maybe contact Dixon'sI've repaired CD's using scratch removers, but never had much luck with a DVD. This may be due to the "Dual Layer" business, or the more info held on the disc.
Sometimes a different DVD drive may be able to read the disc, sometimes a different ripping app. may help.
Usually the bad sectors are at half way. (The outer edge of the disc)
If a commercial disc, seems buying a replacement would be cost effective, rather than the cost/time trying to repair.
I'm not sure if the still do but I remember hearing that EB Games sometimes does it? To fix up their games?
Edit: You might want to try a video store if there is some? Is there any Video Ezys still around? Possibly (but less likely) maybe a library that lets people borrow movies?
Some of the local pawn shops will do it for something like $3
i'll have a look , jbhifi also offered that service. But i've called a few stores to find that their machine was out of order (about 2 years)
Reject shop used to sell this disc repairing spinning thing like a mop bucket that worked good for video game discs. It was $5
