Apple iPhone 6 Plus Unresponsive Screen

Partner recently, Aug 6th, bought an "New in Box" iPhone 6 Plus, model A1522, from an eBay seller who quoted "AUS Stock". Over the last couple of days the screen has become non-responsive when unlocking. It becomes responsive about 30 secs to a minute after unlocking.

We have sent seller a message via ebay and am awaiting a response. Payment was made via PayPal.

My questions are,
Does seller have to repair/replace?
Should I initiate a PayPal/eBay dispute?
What are my options?

If anyone has some experience with this type of scenario, you experience would be appreciate.

Ta.

  • Have you tried a fresh install of os

    • That's my next job.

      • Do that. If it doesn't fix then initiate PayPal dispute.

      • You shouldn't have to tweak/reinstall OS and the like for a brand new phone after purchase.
Just initiate a PayPal dispute and let them sort it out.
        No point going to Apple.
Just be patient and see what happens.
        Good luck

  • Was is sealed in plastic? Was there an AU charger in the box? If so, try taking it to the Apple store. If answering yes to both of the prev questions, then it is probably under Apple Australia warranty, they will take care of you. If the answer is no to either, then you will likely need to take it up with the seller - but taking it to the apple store is free and might be a good place to start.

If you could post the listing, we might be able to give advice with more confidence.

  • Unfortunately no Apple Store in Hobart anymore. Yes has an AUS charger but can not remember if plastic wrapped.

    • Can you post the listing?

      • As per eBay listing

No Apple store on the Apple Isle?!?!

      • Who would have thought that would be the case. Lol.

    • That's not true. You can take it to MyMac who are basically the same as NextByte (which was never an Apple Store anyway), or Mac 1 (who are both on Liverpool St, or Iris Computing on Elizabeth St next to Hungry Jacks for Apple repairs in Hobart under warranty as they are Apple Auth Service providers.

  • take a flight to melbourne as a holiday with the missus :)

  • My 6plus has recently started to lag. Both slow to respond, and sometimes the screen goes black for a few seconds then comes back. Not sure if it's getting too old for the software (shouldn't be, surely), or if I have too much junk on there. So, my point is, perhaps it's not just yours.

  • I had this problem with an iPhone 6S running iOS 10.3.3 (not sure if it's probably a bug?) I just took it to Apple and they replaced it although they never identified the cause of the problem. Probably your best bet, assuming the iPhone is covered warranty

  • I believe it is known as 'touch disease' common with the pluses - I took my original to the Apple Store earlier in the year.
At that stage they were replacing the phone with a new one free of charge.

However I believe rules have changed - there is now a charge of $200-$300 depending on age of phone? There was an announcement from Apple somewhere.

If it was unsealed when you received it then I suspect they knew of the problem! If sealed then a coincidence.
