Hi all,
Been asked by PE staff to purchase a UE BOOM for dance class / fitness session.
Looking at the size of the speaker / price, is it up to the job? Are there better alternatives? (Needs to be portable)
Cheers

I'd recommend the UE megaboom personally for something like that. The UE boom isnt that great at loud volumes.
I have the UE Boombox myself, its a slightly older model, but has great "full" sound (noticeably better quality than the UE Boom), and is significantly louder (on par with the UE Megaboom), with great battery life. They are available on ebay for an absolute steal - I paid $179 and that was a bargain at the time. I can see them on ebay now for $100-$120 refurbished. I think the looks are better too. Only downside is that you can't use it for bicep workouts like you can with the UE Boom :-P
Sorry, they did ask for a Megaboom…
Cant find much better than $268 delivered though (in a regional area)? But this is the best bang or buck option?
Why not try and suggest the boombox to them? If they are trying to save money, it's less than half the price, for a better product (IMHO).
The purple and orange models are cheaper at harvey norman for the Megaboom.
The JBL is a heavier but quality better and way louder.i get roughly 10 hours just under full volume.
Agreed.
Almost all the UE Boom speakers sound bad. They have heavy bass, but really low-quality and low volume mids.
And that's the most important aspects.
Look for reviews, but not fake-reviews or sham-reviews.
Almost all the fake and shame reviews say the UE Boom sounds the best in the industry and is too cheap.
This couldn't be farther from the truth.
You want reviews from experts who have nothing to lose/gain by recommending different products.
This guy fits the bill:

PS I recommend getting two JBL Flip 4 speakers, pair them together, for a rich stereo experience. They actually last a good 8-12 hours playing, they're waterproof and even fit into can/cup holders.
I agree with the negative comments relating to the UE Boom and Megaboom speakers.
Just FWIW, for either now or for future reference, I beleive you are able to pair 2 of these up together so in the future you could buy a second and spread them around the room.
Thanks all, great feedback all round.
This one sounds amazing! Harman Kardon Go + Play Portable Bluetooth Speaker
I’ve used a UE boom for dance classes and it sounds really good for the price point in a room approx 100m2. Only other alternative is the Bose.
