What do you mean ownership? You are essentially leased the domain for a certain period. After that you can continue to use the same registrar (but usually at normal prices) or move it to a different registrar. If you don't renew it, then it's up for grabs again.
With the domain you can use the registrar's provided namesevers, or you can point it other nameservers (but check this) and then you can create domain names in your domain.

I registered my domain name, then realised I had spelt it wrong !!

remember to use the TWO CODES i forgot and only entered one :/ and didnt get unlimited hosting, just the one dollar domain, then I emailed support about it and they said there was nothing they could do so annoying.
