Copy paste if anyone wants the backstory:

Hi, my name is BitAlien, and I'd like to teach you a little bit about Bitcoin Cash.

You've probably heard of Bitcoin before. Bitcoin was the world's first Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System. With Bitcoin, you can send any amount of money to anyone in the world without anyone's permission. Governments cannot censor Bitcoin transactions. No company "owns" the Bitcoin network. Bitcoin is decentralized and permissionless.
Bitcoin transaction fees used to cost less than a cent. Compared to the legacy banking system where transactions can cost hundreds of dollars, this was a huge improvement. As you can see, Bitcoin is a revolutionary technology.
Unfortunately, Bitcoin's development was subverted by Blockstream, a company which employs many "Bitcoin Core" developers to create changes to the Bitcoin software which benefits them. These Core developers have openly admitted that high fees are a good thing, and want to turn Bitcoin into a settlement layer, moving the majority of transactions onto lightning networks. (The technology that Blockstream just happens to specialize in)
Bitcoin Cash is a fork of the Bitcoin blockchain that was created on August 1st 2017. Bitcoin Cash aims to solve Bitcoin's scaling problems, follow Satoshi's original vision, and allow users to once again create transactions with low fees.
Reliable, frictionless money like Bitcoin Cash will change the world's economy for the better.

This seems dodgey. It's like "Give me your address and phone number and I'll give you a dollar".

    • +2

You're the product, the more people in the system, the more confidence, the more value!

    • +7

Not really. It's same as giving your bank account details. People can only deposit into it.
      Different protocols for withdrawal.

If you're really concerned, make a temporary wallet, then transfer out once you receive your $1. (seems like a lot of effort though)

      • Tell that to Jeremy Clarkson

        • If you actually had a bitcoin wallet, you'd know that bitcoin wallets give you seperate incoming and outgoing addresses

        • @fleetfeather: but OP says it's the same as giving your bank account details

    • +12

Hey! Be a man! $1 dollar is lot of money…

"50 cents is alot of money! YOu save 50 cents at a store, and then maybe you go somewhere else and save another 50 cents. Then you have 1 dollar. Then you take your dollar. You go to the dollar store, and you buy something else

Be a man! Do the right thing!",

    • WTF is going on, aliens are giving away alternative currencies.

      • +2

Hey, at least they come bearing gifts.

        • I'll give them alien folk a fist of fives if they come down the pub.

  • As a BTC holder, I have some bitcoin cash already - how do I exchange it for AUD, or BTC?

(My BTC are in a Mycelium wallet, if that's relevant)

    • That's a tricky one. My advice would be to swap the BCC for BTC first and then your life will be easier.

Be careful though, save your BTC to a new wallet BEFORE creating/using BCC wallets. Guides and tons of info - online.

    • +4

Move it into an exchange, sell to AUD and then withdraw.
IndependentReserve.com or BTCMarkets.net are good Aussie ones. Check if they cash out BCH beforehand.

      • +1

Surely fees would take most of that

      • +1

The first problem is I don't know how to move them…

        • Create an account on a exchange. All good exchanges will have very clear instructions on how to move your BTC from a wallet to your exchange account

        • @fleetfeather: I'm talking about Bitcoin Cash, not Bitcoin.

      • No. It does not work that way because his BTC was not on the exchange prior to fork.

Once you've got it, you can dump it at bittrex, etc.

Then if you want AUD, use livingroomofsatoshi.com

      • Thanks, this is the most detailed advice I've seen so far. Will try it out over the weekend!

    • +2

Transfer your BTC to BTCMarkets.net then sell for AUD. I use BTCMarkets for all my crypto trading, it's not the cheapest, but it's Australian, and very well known and regarded. All you have to do is create a free account and transfer to your BTC deposit address.

Sign up for a free account on BTCMarkets.net then once you're in and verified, click deposit at the top of the page, then click deposit BTC. Copy your address and then go to your wallet and transfer to that address. You can then trade your BTC for AUD and withdraw to your bank account.

      • Does that require a Aussie passport ?

        • +2

It requires Australian ID verification yes. If you're using something that doesn't, you should tread carefully!

      • Slightly off topic, but how would you deposit into BTCMarkets without Poli (not compatible with ING)? I don't get anything shown for direct deposit

        • +1

You can use a direct bank transfer which doesn't attract a fee, unlike Poli.

Edit: it's possible that this only shows up after a certain period of your account being open, or after verification.

        • +1

          @Rusty4:
Thankyou, yes I raised a ticket. I had to verify a social media profile and they activated direct deposit for me!
          Thanks again

        • It is compatible with ING, I've done it many times. Not instant though, so kind of defeats the purpose of POLi but it does work.

        • @Meconium: Oh really? Strange
I don't see an option for ING in the Poli prompt at all!

        • +1

@lochie360: Yeah I think they added it later but didn't update the page or something

    • No they're not, hehehe

    • +1

So far mycelium does not support BCH. This is the procedure I found by searching. Make a new mycelium wallet. Transfer the BTC to it. The BCH will remain in the old address. Export private key from old wallet. Import into electroncash wallet. Voila!

      (No warranty)

      • Thanks, I'll try to look into that a bit more. A bit of an annoying hassle to create a new wallet though hey.

    • don't use mobile wallets they're not secure

  • Still most people think BCC has no future. I'm really curious to see what will happen.

Regarding this deal - $1 free is $1 free, will be a bit of a hassle to get the BCC converted to real money, but still…

  • +2

    I like free money.

  • Nice, ended up getting $3 USD worth at current value. Will be changing to something else (not real money)

  • Before providing your BCC wallet address make sure it is NOT on one of the exchanges that do not allow incoming BCC transfers.

    • Recommendations for good wallets?

      • +1

        For Android I use:
        Coinomi - BCC
        CoinJar - BTC

        • +2

I know this is only for ~$1 but if you do start buying crypto currencies it is recommended you don't store then long term on an exchange like CoinJar. Unless you own the private key to the bitocoin/cryptocurrency you are trusting that the company won't go under or get hacked.

        • @thefunkygibbon: That's a very good point!
CoinJar is my preferred exchange not my primary wallet.

  • Someone on OCAU has 112 BTC!! That's a lot. Like 500k but would be taxed if cashed out.

    • I think it might be that guy that bought 80,000 worth of Nvidia graphics cards…

      • +1

That's pretty high yield, but a car would have been even better!

    • Saw a guy on Reddit who posted his public address.. had > 350 BCH, so presuming he held the same volume of BTC since 1/Aug, this dudes a millionaire on Bitcoin - noice!

      • How do you check public addresses.

  • -5

not worth it.. it's $1 not 1 bitcoin

    • +1

Yeah…. they should give away 1 bitcoin per person. That seems reasonable

      /s

  • Worked out to AU$4 not bad for a few seconds to copy & paste the wallet. Thanks OP.

    • Same here. ~$4.

    • +1

How did you get $4 AUD from $1 USD? Makes no sense.

      • Depends on the exchange rate you're getting for your BCash.
Am with BTCMarkets, so pretty pleased.

        • I'm also with BTCmarkets. I highly doubt it's the case.

      • +2

Looks like BitAlien's sending out 0.005 BCC, which equates to around $3USD.
        I'll update the original post

        • That makes more sense.

  • how to find bitcoin wallet address?

    • Depends on wallet. Generally just go into account settings and 'receive'. It'll give you a link, depending on wallet.

    • I just used what they recommended- https://bcc-wallet.btc.com/

      • Thanks. That's what i used. setup as bitcoin. Retweeted. haven't received anything in the wallet.

        • Sent the code around 5 minutes ago, just received it- no doubt you will get it in a couple of minutes

        • @toblerone21: did u setup as bitcoin or bitcoin cash ? did u retweet ?

        • @ozyboy:

Bitcoin cash, I just tweeted the person the bitcoin address

        • +1

  • Who the f is this guy.. doesn't look legit

    • +9

You should know - he is one of your kind!

    • Seems to be from the comments above

    • Can confirm it's legit. I received mine already

      • Hmm ok cool. Just wondering where he came from because not many people do this kind of thing unless they have backing.

  • Just got myen, Cheers. $4.02 AUD

  • Still haven't received mine, wtf?

    Spoke too soon lol

  • would be funny if in 20yrs time, BCH is worth 100x its value, and so the company didn't give out $3 but $300. :P

  • +1

Anyone tried commenting on the reddit post as well?

    • Yeah I did, got it within under 5 minutes.

      • Sweet! I ended up getting 0.005 from reddit and another 0.005 from twitter… winning!

  • This isn't about Bitcoin Cash.

Satoshi came out of a coma and he's here to redistribute wealth to redditors and twitterers. Sadly I'm neither :(

Update: I don't know about registration date, but it appears they're not so strict with the reddit 50 karma rule…

  • +1

yes thanks!! money came within 10 minutes. what do I do now?

From Reddit link: "EDIT: Giveaway is finished! Thank you to everyone who participated! $1600 worth of BCC has been distributed between Reddit and Twitter. Please share with your friends, and teach others about this amazing technology. We are part of a revolution, and the future will be amazing!"

    Think it's over.

  • +1

    Haven't got mine.

  • +1

He is true to his word, I got my transfer.

  • +1

You need to expire this my man

  • Is anyone else having nightmares over that thumbnail image?

    • No, he looks friendly and gave me $4.

  • Just missed out … :-( ah well

I am not sure if I can take all these crypto coins for serious … never understood why there is value in them (blockchain makes sense for lots of applications … but the value is not there for me. It feel with these Alt coins lots of people want to cash in.)

    • +1

Don't worry. Your reaction indicates logical reasoning.

Even if you tried, you will have a very difficult time discussing technical or economic issues with a majority of crypto-enthusiasts because the loudest behave like followers of a religion. And most religious followers have no understanding of what the technocratic leadership is doing or will decide in the future.

The value in blockchain technology is irrelevant to most users these days. Even as the transaction fees for Bitcoin climb to extraordinary figures you'll find people desperate to spin it into something positive. It's all about making money.

  • Didn't get a cracker. Seems like a scam, which is unsurprising given that it is BCH.
