Will GearBest Customs Declaration Be in AUD or USD? (Item Is Just over $1000 AUD)

Hi,
I am wanting to buy something on GearBest, just a bit over $1000 AUD.
So I suppose GST will be charged on that which I rather not buy the item and wait for a cheaper deal.

I am wondering, will GearBest put the USD amount on the customs dec and will therefore go through customs with out being stopped and having to pay for GST(will customs be on to it and know it is USD amount anyway?) or put AUD amount on?

Thanks.

    Duct tape?

    • Yeah, $1000 AUD + worth so how can I Macgyver my way out of the GST?

      • 1 item or mixture?

        • It is one item.

I am just wondering if GB print the USD price(with out USD next to it of course) but I don't have any packages from GB recently to check out.

  • Its a 50/50 to what they'll put on the label…… and if it will be flagged to collect GST. Really depends on the phase of the moon and the backlog etc.

I see. Anyone bought largish items can have a look at their customs dec?

What is the GST fee at the moment? 10% of the item plus $50 processing fee is it? How do you even pay it?

      • If its flagged, you'll get an 'invoice' in the mail instead, for the GST amount 10% + processing fee.

Once this is paid, your package will be released.

  • What's the item…?

  • hasn't the GST threshold been changed as of July 1? no longer 1k aud

  • Customs are not retarded, they understand when something is in USD or AUD, do you think in the entire history of GST on imported goods they've never realised things can be in USD and not AUD? Any decent retailer will make the correct declaration and you will be slapped with the GST.

I'd say it's a gamble you will be most likely to lose. Price GST into your decision to buy, if it's suddenly not worth the cash then don't buy.

So I suppose GST will be charged

It's been deferred to next financial year.

    • Nope. The existing processes to collect GST on imports above $1,000 at the border is unchanged.

      • Sorry, yes, it's under a $1000 that's been deferred.

        • No its over, from the OP

I am wanting to buy something on GearBest, just a bit over $1000 AUD.

        • @JimmyF:

Relax, I said sorry, as in I got it wrong.

        • @Scab: Sorry, yes read your reply wrong. All good! Its Friday, bring on the weekend!

        • @JimmyF:

The annoying/confusing part is that they brought in a 10% GST on eBay fees, even if they're under $1,000.

        • @Scab: yeah thats the 'netflix' tax. GST to be included on all online sales/products/services to Australians, regardless of billing location!
