Double Microsoft Rewards Search Points for The Rest of August

180

Microsoft has doubled the cap on rewards points for bing search for the rest of August.

Remember you can get separate points for searching in Edge, another browser, bing in your mobile browser, and the bing mobile app!

This is possibly TARGETED. The link says US, but I got the email, and I can see that the point cap has been raised.

EDIT: I hate bing and edge as much as the next guy, so I just usually bing the alphabet and a few random strings once a day to hit the cap, and then go back to google. Only takes about 60 seconds. Gets me free games, so I'm happy!

Thanks to Savas for the suggestion to use the chrome extension Binger to get points even easier!

    I got that email too.

  • Thanks op, but yeah, Bing :(

      what's wrong with Bing?

      • +1

        What's wrong with Dogpile?

        • nothing, it looks good.

      • What's right with Bing?

        • +3

I like the way bing presents information (eg. Sydney weather gives an animation and more detail), the Bing homepage image of the day and generally happy with the search results. I use Google occasionally if I cant find something but usually it doesn't help.

        • +1

@Savas: On the rare occasion I end up on Bing, I find the results dreadful. What should be top result (and is at Google) is usually bottom of the first page… First results always seem to be ads, but not marked as such.

  • Awesome, got the same email.

How desperate are they to get people to use Bing? They could quadruple the cap and offer $50 gift cards and still don't think many people could be bothered…

And what's wrong with Bing? Google advertising is bad, Bing is 10x worse. It's hard to find anything on Bing because sifting through their search to find something that isn't advertising gets old, quickly. And there was a point in Bing's history where all they were doing was using google and just slapping their own advertising over it.

And I dont care what they rebadge it as, but internet explorer (Edge) is still trash as a browser and paying my still wouldn't make me use it. Well, I use it to download other browsers, so it's got that going for it, which is nice…

To be fair, I usually bing the alphabet and a few random strings once a day to hit the cap, and then go back to google. Only takes about 60 seconds. Gets me free games, so I'm happy!

Hey Rusty4, quick question around Microsoft rewards. How long did it take you to earn enough points to redeem what type of game?

        • +1

That depends on the promos and quizzes that are on. It slow going though. I just redeemed for a $50 xbox live voucher after two months since my last redemption. Not for everyone I'm sure, but because I'm on my computer all day, I don't mind taking a minute to do this :)

        • @Rusty4: wow that's pretty good, how were you able to earn 36,000 points in two months?

        • +1

@Savas: Searches for Bing in chrome, Bing in edge, Bing in safari on my phone, and bing app on my phone, cumulative use points for edge, Quizzes and click throughs in chrome and edge (edge has extras). On top of that, points for buying digital games etc, plus bonus points through email promos. There are so many ways to earn points, you can get there faster than you think.

  • +2

wait up. I can only see 60 daily points for mobile search and 90 daily points for pc search. whats this about points from edge and a mobile browser? surely they just count towards those 2 tallies anyway?

edit: I got the double point email but my points are not doubled

    • +1

yes same, I thought maybe they might start accumulating under daily offers but nope.

    • In edge the daily points are separate to if you're searching in another browser.

      • +1

hmm. that's not my experience. are you sure your account isn't somehow a US one? through vpn or something?

        • +1

I am sometimes logged in to the US microsoft store, so I may get the benefit of both (if so, get on it!), but my account is an Aussie account, and I dont use a VPN on the laptop I use to get the rewards points. You can change the region by simply going to any microsoft store page and clicking Australia down the bottom then selecting another region.

Here are the views of each of my browsers:

          Edge
          Chrome

  • +2

I like Bing and use them legitimately, but there is a Chrome extension called Binger that you should be using.

    • +1

      Thanks Looks awesome

      • +1

then you can use a user agent switcher and select something like "iPhone" and run Binger again to earn the mobile points.

        • +1

I didn't even know about "mobile points"
How many devices can it be done? like how many PC's and Mobiles?

        • @Axelstrife: oh sorry, I am guessing you are still on level one? once you get to level two it is up to 90 points on PC searches and 60 points on mobile searches per day. I find that I nearly reach the cap from normally using as my default search engine so don't bother too much. I don't think there is a way to get more points on different devices unfortunately.

        • +1

@Savas: Yeah never really paid attention to it but i use slidejoy on my android mobile and made $10 US in two months so figured ill give this a shot since i can use it to buy games on windows store like age of empires lol.

        • @Axelstrife: cool, i am saving up for 12 months xbox live. so for Age of empires you would need to redeem the $25 gift card, best case scenario it takes 120 days but probably too much effort to run searches everyday if you don't normally use Bing. good luck!

        • +1

@Savas: Nah not that age of empires, the age of empires IV that was just announced with no release date yet as far as i know.

bing google nothing different between them much.
nothing that would stop me changing.

        • +1

@Axelstrife: Will investigate more into it later but i think this guy is onto something https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/5005705/redir and you can possibly earn 800 points a day?

        • +1

@Savas: You are a absolute legend.
Just jumped from under 400 point this month to over 700 switching to US

        • +1

@Savas: no idea if you noticed but the daily offers are also different each country set.
Yeah definitely when you include daily offers over 900
i went from 600 to 1800 since i saw your comment telling me about changing the country.

        • @Axelstrife: wow this is amazing!! thank you so much

  • +1

    What is BING ?

    • A crappy search engine made by Microsoft

      • +1

is it a steam engine or coal engine?

  • +1

Thanks OP, I like free stuff! Have you ever won in the sweepstakes? I got 2 free entries for Xbox and surface

  • +4

Gday … I don't know how to reply to a particular person, but .. if you go to
    http://www.bing.com/preferences.aspx
and change your preferences for a particular country, say, USA .. then the daily cap is changed to the daily cap applicable to that region.
    Eg:

    Upon reaching level 2:
    AU = 90 + 60
    US-EN = 300 + 200
    UK = 90 + 60
In fact … although for AU or UK you get 3 points per search, in US-EN you seem to get 5 points per search.

    • You are a friggin LEGEND!!!!!!

    • +1

      You're bloody awesome mate

    • +2

Don't forget France. That's an additional 90+60 per day. Additionally, each country has its own quiz set and those occasional 10 point searches which are sometimes the same for all countries. Quizzes for France may require the translator extension.

Access the quizzes for the different countries by clicking on your reward points total from the Bing home page since going to the redeeming page will open the Australian page.

      • +1

thanks anymore other then france Australia US and UK?

        • +1

Nah those are the only supported countries as of right now.

        • +1

          @Harshad: Thanks

I think my US region is broken though for offers

I have the daily offer "check out your rewards page on Microsoft Edge for bonus offer" (i use chrome)
But i can click it as many time as i like and continuously get the bonus 5 points.

        • +2

@Harshad: Just discovered Germany has it aswell.

        • +1

          @Axelstrife: Nice!!!

        • +2

@Harshad: Canada has been added now aswell.

Happened to me too. Contacted them and then got told to try again because they had "fixed" the problem. Worked the second time. Have made another redemption today about 8 hours ago. Still stuck on processing.

A world of entertainment is yours with a 1 Month Xbox Live Gold Membership. Enjoy!

man that was fast!! third time lucky I guess, I am so happy right now. thank you Harshad, good luck with your order.

  • +1

not sure if people have been doing this, but using chrome extensions and AutoHotKey just created a hot key so i can collect the from the different countries

    • +1

How did you manage this? Would be so good to be able to switch between the five regions with the click of a button.

      • +1

This is my one click method of switching regions. Add the following links to your favourites bar in chrome.

        Australia
        France
        Germany
        United Kingdom
        United States

Label the favourites appropriately and clicking on it should open the bing home page of that particular region. Then use the extensions binger and user-agent switcher as suggested by Savas to collect the points for both PC and Mobile of each region. Simple :)

        • +1

I've got a simpler method where one keyboard shortcut automates everything. It sets region, runs binger, changes agent and runs binger again. Then it repeats for every region and collects all the (850) points. Been meaning to post the instructions but keep running out of time.

        • I have posted my method below if you want to know my method.

        • +1

@Savas: Thanks. Your solution looks more high tech :)

      • +2

sorry its taken so long, there is an easier way (one keyboard shortcut to earn 850 points)

        firstly I made a video, https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BzEb2JyDf9j5U0dibnVrRklVaTQ…

        here are the steps

        1. install AutoHotKey https://www.autohotkey.com/download/ahk-install.exe here is their website
        2. create a new autohotkey file (right click then click on new) and name with .ahk
        1. Right-Click on your desktop.
        2. Find "New" in the menu.
        3. Click "AutoHotkey Script" inside the "New" menu.
        4. Give the script a new name. Note: It must end with a .ahk extension. Ex. MyScript.ahk
        5. Find the newly created file on your desktop and Right-Click it.
        6. Click "Edit Script".
        7. A window should have popped up, probably Notepad. If so, SUCCESS!

(this document is where you put in a script)
        3. paste into the notepad this

        ^e:: ; Ctrl + e
        Run chrome.exe bing.com/account/action?scope=web&setmkt=en-AU&setplang=en-au
        send !a
        sleep, 2000
        send ^b
        sleep, 20000
        send ^i
        sleep, 2000
        send ^b
        sleep, 20000
        send ^i
        sleep, 2000
        Run chrome.exe bing.com/account/action?scope=web&setmkt=fr-FR&setplang=fr-fr
        sleep, 2000
        send ^b
        sleep, 20000
        send ^i
        sleep, 2000
        send ^b
        sleep, 20000
        send ^i
        sleep, 2000
        Run chrome.exe bing.com/account/action?scope=web&setmkt=de-DE&setplang=de-de
        sleep, 2000
        send ^b
        sleep, 20000
        send ^i
        sleep, 2000
        send ^b
        sleep, 20000
        send ^i
        sleep, 2000
        Run chrome.exe bing.com/account/action?scope=web&setmkt=en-GB&setplang=en-gb
        sleep, 2000
        send ^b
        sleep, 20000
        send ^i
        sleep, 2000
        send ^b
        sleep, 20000
        send ^i
        sleep, 2000
        Run chrome.exe bing.com/account/action?scope=web&setmkt=en-US&setplang=en-us
        sleep, 2000
        send ^b
        sleep, 20000
        send ^i
        sleep, 2000
        send ^b
        sleep, 20000
        send ^i
        sleep, 2000
        Run chrome.exe bing.com/account/action?scope=web&setmkt=en-AU&setplang=en-au

        (now ready to run script)
        4. then save and run script (right click), maybe you also have to double click as well. There should be the autohotkey logo should be on the task bar. If not right click and select open with autohotkey
        5. now for the two shortcuts used by the script you need to install these 2 specific extensions
        user agent: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/user-agent-switche…
—> then in options paste this user agent and save

        Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3_2 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8H7 Safari/6533.18.5

(test that when you turn it on that mobile websites show up then turn it off)
        binger: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/binger/gngkebipede…
        6. for the extensions to work you need to apply shortcuts to them in chrome://extensions/ (alternatively open by the three dots in the top right then more tools then extensions)
        7. for user agent set to CTRL + i and for binger use CTRL + u (now select okay)
        8. go to bing.com and check how many points you have
        9. run the AutoHotKey script using CTRL + e (you should now have 850 more points when it is finished)

sorry if this is confusing, let me know if there are any questions or doesn't work. the one thing that I am worried is in the video I previously had autohotkey installed so that might not accurately show how to create and run the script.

edit: Removed the http from links so you can copy them, links should still work.

        • +1

The man, the legend. Thanks mate!

        • @Rusty4: Hahaha is it working? Hopefully it should make collecting the points easier.

        • +1

@Savas: It seems to be working, but not for mobile. Is there something in particular that we need to name the user agent, or a particular group it needs to be in?

I was using the wrong user agent extension!

        • +1

@Rusty4: Interesting, Can you get the mobile user agent working normally by clicking on the extension or using the CTRL + i ?

Edit: I see your updated comment, yeah you need to use the specific binger and user agent extensions so it works with a shortcut. Is it working now so you can collect the full 850 points? I have only used the script twice so will see if there are any problems.

        • +1

          @Savas:

Hopefully it should make collecting the points easier.

Not hopefully. It definitely has made collecting the points alot easier.

        • @Harshad: Oh really? That's great, am impressed if you guys were able to follow my unclear instructions. Let me know if there are any mistakes or improvements to make with the script.

        • +1

          @Savas:

          Edit: I'm an idiot. Ignore.

          Thanks man!

        • +1

@Rusty4: Are you using the one click binger extension?

Edit: Looks like you figured it out

        • +2

@Harshad: I was using the other binger extension. Typical IT person not reading the instructions properly! its working awesomely!

Now to set it up as a scheduled task on my media server so I never have to see bing again!

        • +2

Is it just me or have they fixed the changing region loophole? That or the US now only get 90 points.

        • +1

@Rusty4: Yep, I'm finding the same thing today.. I think they've fixed the changing region loophole

        • +1

@Rusty4: yep this sucks, thanks for telling me though. think I got a few more points on US using a VPN but hardly worth it…

        • +1

@Rusty4: Knew something was up last night. The bing home page wasn't showing my total points. It just said "rewards" in red instead and I hadn't changed anything. Ohh well. Got a few extra points while it lasted.

They probably found this thread lol.

        • +1

@Harshad: Probably! I thought about using my vpn, but I don't think it's worth my time. It was good while it lasted!

        • +1

@Rusty4: I don't think using a VPN will work either. I noticed that earning the search points in one region applies to all applicable regions. When I did the searches for France and switched regions, it was showing the points as earned for all regions.

        • +1

@Harshad: I noticed the same, but I took it as just showing the Australian available points no matter what region you choose as opposed to the points for that region as it used to.

        • +1

@Harshad: annoying it did work with VPN, you have to set virtual location and then corresponding Bing region. huge pain in the ass, probably impossible to script now. you would need to use something like windscribe that is reasonably fast for binger to load the pages and lets you access all the bing regions

          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/deals/windscribe.com

        • +2

@Rusty4: thanks to the tip from Axelstrife, just realized that i was able to write a new AutoHotKey. difference with this script is it uses mouse click coordinates to activate the VPN.

          1. get windscribe for chrome https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/windscribe-free-vp…, sign up using this deal
          2. check you are able to access chrome-extension://hnmpcagpplmpfojmgmnngilcnanddlhb/html/reactPopUp.html#/home?_k=xsuq2e and that screen zoom is on 100%
          3. add a tab underneath loop mentioned twice (in front of "send", not sure why ozbargain doesnt support tabs)
          4. paste this in the autohotkey script notepad document from the last one if you still have it
          5. also make sure binger and user agent single click is still set up from last time

          ^w:: ; Ctrl + w
          Run chrome.exe bing.com/account/action?scope=web&setmkt=en-US&setplang=en-us&setlang=en-us

let me know how this goes, you might be able to experiment with the mouse click coordinates eg "Click 200, 250, 0" until you get it right or send a screen capture video, being able to press CTRL + w (or change to any letter) makes it a lot easier. also don't forget after saving the new script to right click and run again.

here is proof of the script working
