i know TN is not that bad nowadays, but spend that much and end up with a TN is just meh (personally)

      • -2

TN is better for gaming IMHO

Better pixel response which results in better motion clarity in games and less input lag

The big difference is viewing angle, the TN suffers badly in this respect
But if you are gaming, go the TN for sure as you are sitting directly in front of it

I've got a PG278Q (TN) and a PG279Q (IPS), the PG278Q is much better for gaming, big difference
I'm going to sell the PG279Q soon

i have a Acer TN 144hz 2017 monitor.. IPS 144hz is better .. no contest

you are mixing GTG vs pixel persistence.

the GTG is barely doing anything in this content. i highly doubt normal ppl would be able to tell that 3ms difference.

        • Better for… ?

        • +1

Not sure why this is getting downvoted, especially after disclaiming that it was their opinion.

Depending on gaming TN might be better. I have noticed in FPS games the difference in input lag on some TN vs IPS models. Does it make a difference? That's up to the person playing to decide.

        • 1ms TN vs 4ms IPS, IPS wins hands down for better colour reproduction, better viewing angles, better brightness…

Sacrifice all that for 3ms difference. top kek.

        • @jerjergege: GTG response is not why I'm saying it's better, I'm saying there is less input lag, two totally different things

        • +1

          @nobarginsarehere:

Response time does correlate to input lag, for example.

Actual input -> CPU / game tic rate -> GPU rendering -> response time - > monitor post processing.

However input lag on these modern monitors are very low, TVs on the other hand have aggressive post processing.

Nah it won't. That's a TN panel with Freesync.

The direct equivalent of the OP deal for AOC is the AGON AG271QG. It has the same IPS panel, thus the same specs - 2k resolution, 4ms gtg response time, 165Hz refresh rate, wide viewing angle etc.

The main difference is that this monitor has a G-Sync instead of Freesync - the former of which is supported with Nvidia GPUs.

I've used this monitor for 2 months now after having a Dell U2412M. Arguably I could tweak the colour settings to get a bit more clarity to match it, but what I've got going right now on the AOC AGON is only slightly worse than the Dell, and is miles better than the TN panel in the BenQ Zowie XL2430 sitting disused in a corner. Those 3ms of extra input lag on my current monitor are completely imperceptible - and will be to you as well. If you're spending above $600 for a monitor, buy an IPS.

  • nice find, would totally buy it if it is still in the year of 2015.

now i just waiting for ultra wide 144hz 1440p+

    • +2

I hope you have 2x 1080 ti's to run it lol

      • Even then you're going to be playing at mid settings. My 1080ti just hits 60fps on full load on ultra with minimal anti aliasing at ultra wide 1440p

If I was going for 144hz at this point in time I'd stick to 1080p. Easier to drive and the monitors are affordable. By the time 1440p ultrawide 144hz becomes affordable gpus would have caught up by then

        • that sounds very surprising to me! I thought the 1080ti can do 4k at 60fps at Ultra settings on AAA games?

        • i am just tired of 3 144hz monitors and Nvidia surround. just want 1 simple monitor does it all.

i use the lowest setting (even willing to lower resolution)for a competitive game. And high/ultra for the rest(just aiming 60fps for those).

        • I have this monitor and a asus rog strix 1080ti…. hovers around 80-120 fps @ 1440p res in player unknowns battle grounds.

        • +1

@Kanasuke: definitely not ultra, but you can go high and turn off AA as you dont need it @ 4k

        • -1

          @Kanasuke: He said Ultra wide 144hz (144fps) at 1440p

There's no point having a 144hz monitor and only running it at 60fps

Once you go 144fps, 60fps looks laggy and crap

Even if it drops to 80fps you will see stuttering once you are bathing in 144fps goodness

        • @nobarginsarehere: that's true, but 4.9 million pixels still much easier to drive than the 8.3 mil needed for 4k

        • @GossipGoat: This is what I keep saying. Unless you've got your magnifying glass out, AA can be left off and still achieve fine graphics at 4K.

  • +1

Unless you're a competitive FPS gamer, stick to an IPS monitor as opposed to TN

HDR monitors are just around the corner too coming out very soon which is why these are getting cheaper.

    • While it may be just around the corner, or well already here, proper Microsoft/Windows software support might be a while away.

This is a somewhat informative video about how HDR running on windows link

  • +2

Add to the details it's FreeSync

  • My PG279Q is impeccable and these are exactly the same apart from AMD Freesync instead of Nvidia G-Sync

  • Bought one, thanks OP! :)
Been after this one for a while.

  • +2

Is the G-Sync variant worth the premium over this one? (I have a 970, thinking I may upgrade to 1000 series)

    • +1

If you own AMD video cards then choose this. If you own nVidia cards, then choose the more expensive G-sync monitor.

    • If you're using a nVidia GPU, the answer is automatically yes

    • My thoughts: If your FPS drops below 144Hz (or whatever your monitor can handle) then yes, Freesync/Gsync is important. However, if you do not drop below that in FPS, then you don't end up using what turns out to be a pretty expensive option on a monitor. Right now, I'm clocking way above that in the game I'm playing (Overwatch) so it is wasted. In years to come, on different games, maybe then I will get value out of it.

The cheapest IPS Gsync I could find was an AOC AGON AG271QG for $800 during the 20% off ebay sales. That's a pretty hefty premium over this Asus monitor.

  • Good monitor, I've had it for about a year now. It's a shame that my relatives children scratched love hearts onto the monitor.

    • Get them to buy you a new one with this link :)

    • +1

Should've told em 'its time to stop'.

    • sorry to hear that, I hope you slapped those brats big time :(

    • My kids drew on my $600 U2713H a couple days after I bought it. Luckily it wasn' scratched and some medical alcahol got the ink off.

  • Just checked Kogan eBay site and prices are 5% higher than their normal site Kogan.com.au … i am after a new video card :)

    • Did you include shipping?

      • Ooops! Actually they were doing free shipping last week at the same prices but this week it is $14 for shipping and eBay store is still higher.

  • Very tempting… been holding out for a +30" variant, but might have to bite the bullet with this.

  • If this was the gsync skew would of bought

  • Sorry to hijacks.
I have limited budget up to $300. Can someone suggest alternative monitor? Normal use and occasionally for gaming. Is Philip or LG a good bet?

Or go with more reliable brand like this one?
    [Dell-UltraSharp-U2414H] (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Dell-UltraSharp-U2414H-24-LED-LCD…)

    • Phillips for that screen size bonus.

      • Agreed, I am planning to hook it up to set top box but the looks is turn me off.

    • I have an LG 29" ultrawide, got it from computer alliance 299. IPS panel, 2560x1080-Full-HD. Amazing monitor, great colours and perfect for uni work and gaming

      • is height adjustable? Too bad Kogan is not included in the current 20%off ebay promotion.

  • …damn….

  • Its showing $823.86-5%=$780.67
    Has this gone up?

    • It has… It was $650 -5% when it was posted yesterday. Shame as I was going to buy as well.

  • Of note: Freesync range is 35-90Hz. I believe the monitor can be modded for 144Hz under Freesync however.

  • I've had this monitor for about 2 years now. It is excellent and I would definitely recommend it. Paired with a 980ti I get 60-80 FPS in Witcher 3 at almost max settings which looks beautiful on this monitor.

  • I once got a PG248Q monitor which is 1080P@165hz. But my GTX1070 can only got average 120-130 fps when playing DOTA2 at max effect.(Highese 165, lowest 80 when team fights)

$600+ is a lot for 1440p, I posted a deal $175 for 1440p. There are compromises, if you are poor and want 1440p check here. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/324796

    • +2

Its not only 1440p, it has 144 hz refresh rate and thus the cost.
Also one you referred is over 5 year old and used one…

  • Just received an email informing me it's out of stock and it'll take a while to ship. Free $50 voucher brings down the total effective price to $570 :)
