Building a PC for Drafting and Rendering Work budget $2500

I want to build a PC that is used for Drafting and Rendering work. Should I get a Gaming PC? Also should I try to put a good processor in such as i9?

My budget is around $2500. It is mainly to use for work.

Where can I get a bargain for this budget?

Here's a list of guides, with price ranges and builds.

    Very good reads.

I would do a Ryzen build - PCPartPicker. Leaves plenty of room for a nice IPS monitor.

    • Those guides haven't included the new intel processor….

Yes I am recommending a Ryzen build.

        i9 and budget don't mix.

There are a lot better returns using ryzen vs intel if you're doing more than just gaming.

        • Yes, I agree, i9 is overprice at the moment.

For some reason, I have had good run with Intel processor. I find they are a bit more stable when overclocking….

        • @CoreJava: Personal preference is personal preference and you're free to choose, but as it stands right now Ryzen CPU's perform better for work related tasks like drafting and rendering, and at a better price. That's why Intel is rarely included in work machine builds.

Intel will perform better in games, but that's not going to be worth much if your primary focus isn't games.

the new Coffee Lakes are coming soon and the newly released Threadrippers should also be considered as well.

However, you need to look at your workloads and see if they are multithreaded and can make use of more than 6 CPU cores.

If it doesn't then Ryzen / hex-core Coffee Lake might be better. Ryzen is great value but the platform may not have enough PCIE lanes for extremely high end setups, like those with dual GPU + PCIE SSD's.
