Router $200 or less with best WiFi

Hi all, i have FTTP NBN and the kids are complaining about the wifi range and drop outs with the current TP LINK TD W8980.
What can I replace it with for $200 or so. Local company D-comp has ok prices.

Multiple family members with devices and it runs my NAS.

Thanks

Mine works great with 100/40 NBN FTTP.

    • Another happy AC68u user here

    • What do you use for a modem?

      • I have nbn fttp I don't need a modem.

  • I've used both Asus AC68U and Netgear Nighthawk R7000 on NBN FFTP. I'd recommend either.

    • They're identical devices other than case and software.

      • Throwing out a third vote for Asus 68u. I'm using one at the moment covers my full house both floors with 5ghz coverage, with the 2.4ghz band it covers the full yard the neighbours places and I can still get signal on my phone three houses up the street or across the road at times.

  • Keep the TPLink but turn off it's WiFi. Buy an Ubiquiti UniFi AC access point (whichever model you fancy) on eBay with discount code. Add more units if your house and yard are that big.

You don't need a better router, you need a better spread of WiFi.
Keep the TP-Link and keep its WiFi on, get Ethernet installed from there to another point at the other end of the house and add another router set to AP mode only..
Puts its WiFi on a different band but with the same SSID and password. Your devices will roam to the more powerful signal.

  • Synology RT1900ac if you can find one.

  • Ended up getting the Linksys deal on here, same as the ASUS apparently,

Kids have giving it the thumbs down, they say the old modem was better (Faster).

    Oh well.
