What is the best gutter to collect water for drinking water please?

Hi everyone,

We do not have city water where we live.

I am looking to get some gutter for our house to collect water to drink please.

I do not mind second hand from. eBay or gummtree or graysonline as long as they are still in good condition.

I am in northern suburb in Sydney and I have a trailer.

    That's a thing over here? Birds shit on your roof and bio matter decomposes there you know. Are you going to filter/boil it?

      I like to drink it straight out the drain pipe. For them disolved minerals.

      our house is triple filtered plus UV treatment
      kit bought off ebay for $700
      cost another $100 or so in fittings and copper pipe to place in line

      A lot of properties even just an hour away from Sydney, are not connected to the water grid. In times of low rain they need to truck it in.

      There is no need to treat locally collected rain water in Australia (or elsewhere, I think, although I don't know if tar paper roofs are toxic).
      The extremely high exposure to sunlight of most roof areas mean that the possibility of a biohazard is very slim, especially compared to drinking river water etc.
      People in Australia outside the cities have happily enjoyed rain water for many, many decades with no ill effects.

    i find doing the sneaky when setting up your spanky new water system you run your neighbours house gutters into yours, double the water and it only requires a couple of hotwheels tracks.

    Organic gutters are best, other gutters allow dihydrogen monoxide to flow into the drinking supply which you can potentially die from in certain circumstances where a lot of it has collected.

    A funny question that exposes the diverse backgrounds of OzBargain as they show cultural prejudices.
    Drinking rainwater collected from your roof is arguably safer than city tap water, with neither gal or aluminium guttering offering any appreciable risk.
    Enjoy the pure water. Note ig you replace tap water and you are in a town with fluoridation, you might have tooth issues, but I think if you use fluoridated toothpaste these are largely fine.
