Harvey Norman Sony Promotion- Price Match Guarantee Question

G'day all,

Today I bought the Sony 55inch A1 OLED TV from Harvey Norman for $4695 with a promotion that included free delivery, free wall mount and a $200 Harvey Norman Gift card. Costco had it cheaper but I had no way of getting it home. I just found out that Myer has the same tv for $3999 delivered. Would I have any luck with Harvey Norman's price match guarantee?

$695 surely gets the tv professionally mounted on the wall??

I am feeling like a dumbo at the moment… :-(

  • did you pay for it with a credit card? if yes then does your credit card have a price protection?

    • the price protection will take the Gift Card, Wall mount and Del costs from the total before refunding the difference

      • both have 'free' delivery, so they can't take that away. But yes, its not a 'equal' product compare.

If HN price matches you, then all you'll get is the TV delivered.

You won't get the wall mount and a $200 Harvey Norman Gift card. Not a big deal really.

$695 surely gets the tv professionally mounted on the wall??

Well its more like $495, as you have a $200 giftcard.

But yes, it should get you someone, to supply a wall mount and install it for that price. But truthful, you won't really get much 'change' out of that for a GOOD install, hiding the cables in the wall etc.

As others have pointed out, you are within your return period, it hasn't been shipped yet. So go back in and see what they can do for you.

For $3998 (as HN will only beat it by a $1), you should get the TV, delivery and I would ask for a wall mount too, otherwise, you might as well just go and give the business to myer who is offering you a GREAT deal without having to beg rather than to the scum HN.

I don't think that the price you got is that bad if you want it wall mounted.
You haven't paid a horrible amount, enjoy the tv in all its wall mounted 4K glory !

( but I would rather Myer have the money than HN)

    • "free wall mount" isn't "free wall mounted TV install"

OP would be better to cancel the HN deal, get the $3999 myer one and use that $600 to pay for a NICE good wall mounted TV install, including the wall bracket.

EDIT - OK OP says it might be an install now in later posts, the first post isn't clear and just says "free wall mount" which I would take as the bracket, nothing more.

if you go to the HN site it says wall mount installation. I originally thought the same, that it was just a bracket.

        • +1

ahhh ok. That clears that up then.

Agreed, HN is a better deal then just for the 'hassle' free part of it, OP hasn't really 'over paid'.

Stores usually only match like for like ie. Myer will have to offer free delivery, free wall mount and a $200 Gift card.

  • Cheers all,

JimmmyF, I came to the same conclusion after thinking about it for a little while. HN confirmed that it's a quality install and they'll be concealing the cabling inside the wall cavity, supplying the wall bracket/mount etc. SO, I am not really that sad after all.

Now to figure out what to do with the gift voucher….

Appreciate everyone taking the time to reply. :)

    • Hold on… So is it a FREE wall mount bracket or a FREE wall mount INSTALL? As if its the later, then yeah you're better to stay with HN. If its only a 'wall mount' as in bracket no install, then I would go with myer.

Personally, if its an install, factoring in all the things and 'hassle free' side of things, the HN isn't a bad deal, so don't stress. It'll just be 'done' and you don't need to chase anyone.

hidden cables etc, worth the money I think. enjoy it.

agreed…. Mine is wall mounted, cables in the wall. The only way to go!

OP enjoy, good price, good TV, good install. Do it!

        • Do you have a shelf under it for the centre channel speaker?

Or (please no) you have a 'nice' TV with no sound system?

        • @StickMan: It has a cabinet under the TV, that contains the AV gear, including the center speaker.

Most cabinets end up being too 'low' for the best viewing angle when the TV is placed on it, hence wall mounting it higher for the better viewing angle.

          How about you?

        • @JimmyF: I need to do some reading on angles. In my view (heh), you should aim to have your eyes at centre of screen. Screen size 60inches and above, most TV's and couches (when sitting relaxed in it) you're actually below the middle point.

I know some people with wall mounted tv's and they are IMO insanely high up, as in you need to look upwards to even see the bottom bezel. This means that the entire rectangle shape is distorted.

        • @StickMan: yeah it depends on the height of many things, you, your chairs etc. You want to be looking in the center, but on an ever so slight upwards angle etc.

Many great articles around on the correct heights etc.

    • Ahh then thats a pretty good deal. We bought a 75" hisense and partner wanted to wall mount and hide the cabling in the walls. Got quotes ranging from $600-1.3k+. Sooo that didnt happen xD
