Where to Get Cheap Wall Art?

I'm after some cheap artwork to fill our walls. Genuine art is extremely expensive so looking for some alternatives. Just something modern, splash of paint on a canvas kind of thing. I've looked at finding some pictures on the Web and printing them out on canvas from BigW but I haven't found any images that are high enough quality and I like them.

Thoughts?

Hang around the railway sidings and you will find plenty of graffiti "artists" who will do the job for free

  • Check the 'free stuff' on gumtree.

Genuine art isn't always expensive, just depends on the artist.

  • Hang a mirror or two. People love mirrors!

    • He wanted art, not images that will scar him forever.

      • Are you saying he's no oil painting?

        Chill, bro :P

    Ikea

  • Try the local preschool. Some parent will surely be happy to 'lose' little johnnys 'so latest masterpiece.

  • Firstly, doing your own "splash of paint on a canvas" is entirely possible. You can get those cheap canvases in reject shops, some paint, a brush maybe. Maybe get into a little Bob Ross.

It might be rubbish, but it's authentically your rubbish - and with most modernist stuff, most people aren't going to see the different between a pollock and your bllcks.

Other alternative is to wait till the $59 BigW canvas offer comes around and get a photo or two of your own printed at a large size. There are plenty of places where you can source such images, or more usefully, print some of your own. You can also get hold of some images and muck about with them in an art package, turning them into something more 'arty'.

    Lots of options.

    • Or, the OP could do what they did in the olden days and hang up some tapestries.

      • Or nicely patterned carpets

I hear the Etsy website is quite good for that sort of thing. I assume you're looking for stuff like this:

Wait for a Big W or Harvey Norman canvas print sale, then grab a high res copy the art you like and get them to print it out. Make sure it is licensed for personal use, or hide it when the cops come over (jk, but just don't sell the art if its not yours).

  • A cluster of music/movie posters or vinyl album covers, an old advertising sign, or a mirror with an interesting frame?

  • Bollard Art.
One day it is gonna be worth something.

  • get your kids to splash some paint on canvas and then hang them… if you don't have kids get someones else's.. just pay them kinder eggs that should be sufficient

    NASA Space Tourism posters https://solarsystem.nasa.gov/galleries/space-tourism-posters

One day i really want to get one of these printed for my own house. I find the design aesthetic fantastic (in every sense of the word), and the fact they are given for free in very high res files is just the icing on the cake. Also means they should blow up to A1 size(een larger??) easily.

    • All Hubble telescope imagery is public domain too.

  • Thanks for the tips everyone - Unfortunately I have tried most of this. It's a real struggle to find half decent, high res images online for this. I'm tempted to grab my camera and take a blurry photo that looks vaguely like what I want then edit in photoshop for the desired effect.

Unfortunately a lot of the pre made stuff is quite small, I'm looking at 1x2m

    • Make sure you are using the google tools in your search, limit the search to large. To stay within all that is fair and right, tick for reuse license too.

  • Blue Dog Posters and Print shop has some good prints.

Print one of your holiday snaps on canvas, it's a lot more forgiving than printing in poster so it doesn't have to be a super high quality photo
