  • Isn't 15 FPS a little choppy

    • +2

Not exactly feature film quality, but probably OK for surveillance.

depends…. i think humans need a minimim of 24fps to see real fluid motion. but 24fps to a pigion would be like watching a very slow slide show. pigions need about 250fps to experience an illusion of movement. so if your a human or pigion yes it would be choppy but if your a sloth it might be ok.

15FPS is fine and anything higher will just use up bandwidth for little gain to most people.

  • How is this camera different from the usual Xiaomi camera?

    • +1

This one can pan 110 degrees in a single shot which explains why it needs to be 5V 2A charged rather than being any microUSB cable like others.

  • I don't understand the word gimbal in the product, it's not motorised or hand held…

  • I'm guessing by the price, the 360 camera is much better in terms of quality

    • Different.
This has a smaller area and uses mechanical elements to move the camera, the 360 pick up everything at a low res and you can digitally zoom into a portion.

  • "IP security camera"

Is it connected to your network (via wifi or Ethernet) 24/7?

    • +1

Looks like wifi and battery are the main use, so set it up before you go for remote surveillance. The cable for charging would restrict its ability to turn around.

Psst this camera is already ready for shipping from GeekBuying if anyone is impatient.

Whats the difference between this and the Xiaomi XiaoFang?

  • I haven't looked at Xiaomi cameras (or any security cameras, come to that) before, but I am interested. Does anyone know if the Xiaomi cameras can operate without connecting to Xiaomi's cloud service? I.e., could I set it up on my network, then access the camera remotely by connecting to my VPN? (I'll do some research and report back if nobody knows, but I figured people who'd played with these already would know the answer!)

… I Googled for a few minutes and came across this: https://github.com/samtap/fang-hacks I suspect it would need updating to support the new camera.
