Thanks. I'll continue to eat spoonfuls of sugar from the bag.
Or just use the wide range of other sugar free sweeteners…
Isnt a lot of stuff labelled as "Excessive consumption may have a laxative effect"
Yes but only in high dosages, maltitol can do it in low dosages.
challenge accepted!
Post back your results! :D
If we don't here back, apologies.
stomach/diarrhea
I've never heard of this symptom before.
Yeah, I have a stomach and I have never even eaten this!
Haha I meant stomach issues, sore, gas etc.
You also missed that all important qualifier "may". Would you warn that snickers contain peanuts which cause itchiness, urticaria, swelling, eczema, sneezing, asthma, abdominal pain, drop in blood pressure, diarrhea, and cardiac arrest?
@chickenface: OMG Snickers bars will kill you how have I survived so far?
You've never chewed 5 packets of Extra in one lecture?
I've only ever had arse diarhea and that was bad enough. Also, given enough dosage anything will kill you.
what is "enough dosage"
its like saying taking enough dosage of panadol will also kill you..
I keep reading the ingredient as malti-lol
monto-lol-a
Thanks for the heads up. This looked well decent but malitol makes me stupidly hungry. Whenever I have something with some malitol I want to eat everything on the planet - bad times.
Yeah, I was interested until I read that it contains maltitol. Gives me headaches, cramps and gas. And apparently contains half to three-quarters of the carbohydrates of sugar, meaning that you'll still get an insulin response (like you mentioned), and it's only three-quarters as sweet as sucrose, meaning that they have to use more of it as well to get the same level of sweetness. Damn, I got excited for a minute!
Yeah well according to ozbargain maltitol is the same as stevia… :/
I think it just needs to be eaten in moderation, much like anything we humans consume.
Had some last night from the jar I purchased and can confirm that I'm still alive.
Its just that it has similar properties to sugar anyway.
I'm not saying don't buy it, just be aware that its not a very good quality product, nothing with maltitol is really.
They must have paid decent coin for the big 5-star health rating sticker on the top of the jar then!
The health rating only compares it to similar products
So its 5 stars compared to Nutella which is not a big deal.
@samfisher5986: Really? I thought it was a rating based on it's ingredients.
Nope, plenty of sources for example http://www.smh.com.au/comment/its-freaking-hopeless-the-heal…
@samfisher5986: Interesting read, thanks!
What else is on catalogue? :)
I assume that this product directly competes with the "fatter" Nutella. Interestingly, even though it's 97% less sugar (assuming it's less than any similar product in average, including Nutella), but it's 13% less energy (kj)…..i thought Nutella and other alike are super high in sugar, hence the calories. I guess this new alternative won't be giving me much less guilt when eating it then!!
Seems like it's just another form of sugar.
this stuff is quite nice, but i couldnt help feeling ripped off when opening the jar and it was only 3/4 full. The weight announced was correct just a packaging error. Customer service weren't ready to send me free samples either.
I didnt get diarrhea from it but it was pretty similar to a previous coles brand one with cookie crumbs in it.
beware this has maltitol, raises blood sugar and given enough dosage will give you stomach/diarrhea
