MacBook Pro w/out touch

Hey everyone
I'm after a MacBook Pro without touch 2017
Just missed out in the current Myer sale at 20% off
Is my best option to get 10% off at goodguys now or jbhifi next time it comes up or will I get a better deal on here?

Also is 256gb ample space? I'm only going to dabble in some photo editing and just use majority office and some poster making apps?

Thanks guys

  • Wait till xmas/new years if you're patient. Most likely, some good deals will pop up during that period (i.e. maybe there will be a $1500 sale again at Myer etc. like there was during EOFY)

Alternatively, jb typically has a sale every 2 months or so but its like 10-20% at best (so $1600 if you're lucky)
Good guys not too sure but they have a decent price match policy but if you wanted price match, officeworks is by far the best due to it having a further 5% off.

To me, 128gb is enough as I normally use onedrive or some cloud storage or I use an external hard drive (external SSDs are very fast but expensive)
128gb is ample for just everyday use BUT it is still on the low end if you install lots of applications such as photoshop and office and video games etc.

If you are thinking of installing such applications, go for the 256gb model but do be aware, you will need an external hard drive if you have LOTS of applications that you use often (e.g. at home, my desktop has 1 tb hard drive that is pretty much full due to lots of backups and variety of applications)

    • Thanks heaps
      I don't know if I can't wait til then but I'll definitely try….
so if jb have 10% off will officeworks match it and then take a further 5% off?

      • If jb have the 10% off (proprietary), officeworks typically will lower their price the day after meaning you cant get the further 5%.

So what I would do is sign up for emails from jb and the second you get the email, go out to an officeworks to get the price match. Alternatively, you can call up officeworks immediately and get the price match that way too.

        • Oh Wow I didn't know that
          Thank you very much
I will try do that :)

  • Also is 256gb ample space

You may find 256GB is enough.
Apple charge quiet a premium to increase your memory, based on the price difference between the hardware.
easy enough to free up some memory by transferring unused to content to an external SSD or HDD.

    • Ok sweet thanks heaps

  • I think 256 Gb is enough. 512 Gb is justified as well.

My personal recommendation is to store data externally. Only apps and small working documents should be on the laptop. And get Time Machine running every time you connect to the external drive. Then again, I am quite pedantic with data management.

10% off is what you normally get around. 20% off was a great deal.

    • Yeah I'm ok with storing files on an external drive
      I'm just worried about applications
But thanks for the peace of mind I think I'll stick to the 256gb

      • Limited storage forces you to manage as well, which can be a good thing. I recommend partitioning your external drive, one for your time machine and one for your data (and also get a USB 3 drive).

Price match these guys to get a further 5% off at the usual suspects.

    • Ok cool I'll check them out
      Thank you
