Need a car for Xmas in Canada, but am frustrated by how hard it is to get legitimate quotes.
The main problem is that in Canada, the "headline rate" - only $11.95 per day - is blown out by the compulsory CDW which can be any amount, like $39.95 per day.
But most rental comparison sites just leave this off entirely and cover themselves by saying "additional local charges and fees may apply".
Previous trips I've used a little local guy who I know, but he's retired…
I'd appreciate any anecdotes, gotchas, tips etc that you have from your experience.
(Preferably actual recent Ontario rental experience)
I recently booked a car from https://www.economybookings.com/ for an upcoming trip to Vancouver - they include free CDW. Beware the quoted price is in AUD but you pay in Euros, so make sure you use Citi or Macquarie etc for payment.
