Help on My New Logitech MK270R Keyboard with Lag

Hi guys,

so I recently bought this (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/319672) from JB.
And for the first few days the keyboard worked perfectly without any lag, but as of 2 days ago I'm experiencing really bag lag, its completely unusable. I think there was a windows update on the same day (which may explain it). But i'm not sure what i can do to resolve this.

I've tried:
Changing batteries
Trying a difference USB slot
restarted my PC
tried finding new firmware via windows for the keyboard.

I'm now using my old wired keyboard (which luckily i hadn't thrown out yet, with no lag)

You might have inteference with other devices in the 2.4ghz band, like cordless phones, microwave or 2.4ghz b/G/N router.

Just for testing purposes turn off Wifi routers that are close by for a few moments and try to use KB again.

  • Thanks for the suggestion, i just tested it. It doesnt seem to be the issue.

Like i said, it was working fine for a few days and then suddenly occured. So i didnt think the wifi or microwave suddenly changed anything.

Also, i hadn't used the wireless mouse yet, but just tested that, and it's also very laggy and un-useable.

  • Just take the lot back to JB. They should be able to test it in a second if they have anyone remotely technical. If it works fine in the shop, accept it back and work on your setup.

    • not sure what you mean by work on my setup…cause that's what i'm trying to do right now

      • Well, a true nerd house will have maybe 50? keyboard requiring devices to test if it's hardware, software or interference. If you have a playstation 2 or beyond with USB, test it with that. You could probably even test it with USB OTG on a phone to be figuring out if it's hardware or software. Raspberry Pi maybe, but early models lag if the USB power is insufficient. Break the problem down in halves Price is Right style. Try different USB ports as they are not all the same even on the same computer. I would be testing the VCC for 5V with a multimeter, but maybe you can install monitor software often supplied with your motherboard and watch if USB power dips. I would also be testing whether it lags in a pre-boot situation like the BIOS setup or maybe safe mode.

        • wow, thanks for the write up, i didn't think i needed to be a nerd to use this wireless keyboard. Lesson learnt for me, lol, back to the ol'skool

        • @cloudy:
As I said, easiest way is just take it to JB. They have dozens of laptops on display and can check it quickly and easily. If you see it working well there, do put your nerd hat on and try to figure out why your side isn't working.

The BIOS check is probably worth doing. During computer bootup, look for the setup entry function key on screen at the start, press the key/s and see if you have lag problems that early on. Don't save anything in that mode though.

It was actually easier years ago when a boot diagnostic DOS floppy disk made things much easier.

I'm experiencing really bad lag, its completely unusable

That's normal, I feel the same if I ever have the misfortune of needing to use a membrane keyboard.
