It's the Gen 1 bridge.
AFAIK the difference between the Gen 1 and Gen 2 bridge is the newer model has: faster CPU, more memory and Apple HomeKit support.
This, also they aren't the "richer colour" new bulbs that are available in some countries.
Thanks for the info! I guess it's better to pay the extra $100 for a newer model.
You may want to check out Amazon UK as you can get some good deals on Hue stuff there. eg. The Starter kit w/ the Gen 2 bridge with Gen 3 bulbs was recently the same price as this, delivered! I was very tempted but didn't pull the trigger as I'm still trying to work out what I do for a wall switch; I still need them to work "normally" for my wife and kids!
I bought a 3rd gen kit from Amazon UK in the black friday sales (before they blocked non-UK residents) but had the package "returned" apparently by their customs. Have you successfully received a UK Hue shipment?
This morning I just got my second "returned" email after they re-shipped the item from the prime day sales. I've contacted support yet again. I don't know how they're shipping these things but they don't seem to be able to get to Australia.
If you're not already in the Hue camp, and don't mind a bit of tinkering then LimitlessLED (whirlpool thread) might be worth a look as they're much cheaper than Philips bulbs.
The reason I wanted to get the Philips Hue light was some of the IFTTT functions which are not available for other light bulbs. It is a play thing…

For $20 more per light bulb that last a few years probably worth all the odd features.
After all these smart light bulbs are 50% a play thing..
You may also like to consider lifx light bulbs.
They can also be used with ifttt.
From that link they really want you to believe that each bulb uses 80% less than a traditional bulb, but I wonder how much extra power they use compared to any other 'normal' LED.

When the bulb is on and set to maximum brightness, it consumes about 0.08-0.09 Amps (about 5.4 Watts). In the off state (but still drawing some power so that it can communicate with the network), each bulb draws around 0.01 to 0.02 Amps (about 0.4 Watts)
It's 38% off
