Oakley Carbon Shift Sunglasses $109.49 USD (~ $140 AUD) Shipped by Massdrop

80

Massdrop is currently dropping Oakley Carbon Shift (non-polarised though) for USD99 plus USD9.95 shipping, totally just under AUD140. The Shift is listed on Oakley website (au) for AUD 389.95.

It even includes an Oakley hard carrying case. In my opinion, if you are after a pair of "low-profile" "good looking" (very subjective) good brand sunny, this might be what you would like to consider.

Copy & Paste:
Designed to look great, fit great, and stay put, the Oakley Carbon Shift sunglasses feature a unique combination of materials: O Matter (a durable, pliable plastic), plus aluminum and carbon fiber on the arms. This makes for an incredibly lightweight pair of shades, despite their size and full-coverage lenses. The gray High Definition Optics lenses complement the matte black frame, and are held in precise optical alignment by the company’s Three-Point Fit. Meanwhile, the Unobtainium earsocks provide superior grip, so you can walk, run, or ride without worrying about your sun protection sliding off. A microfiber bag and hard carrying case are included.

  • Love my carbon shifts

  • Just ordered a pair.
I don't mind waiting seeing as I already have about 6 pairs of Oakley's in various stages of use

  • How important is polarisation

    • +2

      Supremely.

    • +1

      Not that important at all.
If you surf/fish /ski or do anything where you get glare off of objects then they are worth it.

For everyday use you don't need polarised at all.

      • Driving glasses

        • +1

I drive 100km every day to and from work in non polarised glasses.

I only use my polarised glasses when I go fishing.

    • +1

It mitigates glare and may cause the scene to look cleaner and more defined - so very important.

There was a time when all sunglasses were polarised but then someone decided people need the choice of inferior sunglasses.

  • +1

$140 for non-polarised sunglasses? The 'f' is silent in Oakley Carbon Shift.

    It's showing just $99.99 now?

I have to say that's a great price.
The last good bargain I saw on Oakleys was on eBay
And that was December last year, when Oakley BadMan Scuderia Ferrari Polarized was available for $199

    Polarized or not Porlarized?

    I second perthjay85
Polarized is good for cutting glare; thus could be help for lesser eye tiredness, in some situations - like fishing, skiing etc.
Not that relevant for the typical urban.
Moreover, you compromise robustness for polarization.
Even Oakley's polar film coating on the lens will start peeling with usage.
And then, it is an eyesore- literally.
The polar film is easily scratched too, and doesn't take sweat, skin oil, and even light everyday wear and tear very well.

Propping your shades atop your head?
Quickly stuffing it in your pocket- sans the microfiber cloth?
The polar coating will suffer every time.

    Nice deal aec; and thanks.

BTW, the Massdrop business idea is refreshingly novel and makes sense.
Gotta watch that space more closely.

    Thanks all for reading.
