Was wondering if they were still the ugliest laptops in existence. Checked picture, yep.

  • If I have 2k to spend I probably will get one from this deal. 970 or 1070 video card.

    • Yeah, I just saw that after I posted,

but geez I can't convert my missus away from Alienware, I am just glad she not an apple fan lol
I must say that the resale value of 17 R1 was great, $1500 upgrade every 4 years

Think you need to replace the missus.

    • those units are ex-demo/refurbished

      • yeah but they come with a 2 year RTB warranty so you're fine

  • Shame the 17 R4 only has 2 USB ports (one with powershare)

Although its got a USB (type-c) and thunderbolt 3 (type-c) ports too.

    • yea that the first thing I notice, and they really need to have a 90-degree power plug -

Only a 1060 on a 17 inch laptop? HA, if I'm going to carry around all that extra weight I better get a 1070/1080 gpu.

With alienware you always pay more for less, unless you absolutely love the brand, and the dell warranty is pretty good, i wouldnt touch anything alienware.

    • What brands would be a better gaming laptop?

      • Every brand has their good stuff and their duds. But overall, MSI, Gigabyte, ASUS and Acer will all have products with similar hardware that don't carry the same brand name charge as Alienware.

As always no one brand is the objective best, you just gotta compare a lot.

        • Thanks. Any idea how to look for good ones? Is it just specs?

I have an Alienware and my partner has a Gigabyte but neither of us seem to be happy with ours. They started off well but maybe a year or under two, both seem to be a bit buggy.
