These are well made and are like the gold standard for quality cables on ozbargain. They work reliably, unlike some el cheapo $1 ones that play up and won't work for file transfers. I beleive they also feature an in built chip to ensure the phone gets the right voltage, which is important if you don't want to turn your device into an expensive paper weight. Its worth all three hundred and forty one cents.

      • "Its worth all three hundred and forty one cents"
That's reassuring but not at the same time

On any cheap cable it's not the (say) $3 cost of the item that's the issue so much as the potential damage to the $1000+ device that it may be connected to. Can you tell me any more about this inbuilt chip which regulates the voltage?

      • +1

They are better cables than most you will find, but there is no built-in voltage regulator.

        • that's good a thing.

      • I beleive they also feature an in built chip to ensure the phone gets the right voltage

If by chip you actually mean resister you would be correct.

        • -1

no resistor, no chip. Just a 4 pin straight through USB cable.

[edit] sorry might have the 56k resistor..

  • Thanks ok, needed one to charge my switch

    • The biggest problem with these deals is that:
      - they come once in a while
      - they last less than 3 hours
      - (free) shipping usually takes 5 weeks

I've got two of these cables and they're really nice, can tow a boat.
I would recommend pure USB-C to USB-C cables if possible, upto ThunderBolt 3 spec. However, its really hard to find these.
And I think they would come at least $10 in this mixed market.
Even BlitzWolf's own C-C cable is only UPTO 480MBps, which is USB 3.0 (or 3.1 gen 1, if lucky).

The biggest non problem with these deals:
        - cheap and decent quality :)

  • +3

Decent cables, and Benson approved. Thanks OP.

    • I only see the BW-CB4 ones approved on his site.

      • +1

Just when I thought that I was getting a hold on the complicated mess that is USB C. :/

      • +5

Who is this Benson dude, and why should I care about his approval? Does he get a stack on his desk each day and tick them off?

Searching the OzBargain website or googling this would give you the answer.

Edit: too lazy to search so gives negative vote.

Benson works for Google. The issue with USB-C is that due to various reasons (with Qualcomm quick charge 2/3/4 actually not following the official USB standard, and more importantly, some cheap cable companies saving cost), a lot of the cables and converters actually have the wrong resistors which means they can allow excess current through the cable - which can blow up a device. Basically, a quick/lazy way is to use a cheap/weaker resistor in the cable so that more current and flow through easier (hence supporting Qualcomm QC), but that can blow up devices which use USB-PD. Benson was/is frustrated with the situation and tried his best to review cables and converters. Even OnePlus offered full refund for their USB-C cables and quite a number of the "passed" ones from cable makers are the second revision - after Benson failed their first revision ones.

Even with his testing and making people more aware of the situation, the USB-C world is still a mess. You have most cables which passed the test being mainly USB 2.0 types. Also, USB-PD is the official standard for fast charging, with both Google and Apple supporting it. In Apple's case, iPad Pro 12/10 inch models do support USB-PD, but Apple don't provide the cable nor the USB-PD charger (you have to buy them from Apple - which cost $$$). Then, there is these Qualcomm quick chargers (which supports Qualcomm quick charge 2/3/4, but most don't support USB-PD). So, if you have devices which support Quick Charge, and devices which support USB-PD, then you need more chargers. Apple and Google won't support Qualcomm quick charge and will Qualcomm move to USB-PD?

Then, there is USB 3.0, 3.1 gen 1, 3.1 gen 2, 3.2 mess. Do you just get the cables that match the speed your devices support or you go for a bit more future proofing. Considering Benson only reviewed a small portion of cables and converters, are these faster cables actually safe? In fact, in general, quite a few of these USB 3.x cables failed the test.

Based on the reviews on Amazon, a lot of the cables which passed the test have reliability issues. They worked fine for few months and then stopped working.

  • Always found these cables to be up there with the best. Does 15W QC fine

  • does anyone know the differences between all those blitzwolf typc c models? blitzwolf website can't tell me those infos.

  • +1

"reversible"??? Isn't type C by default a reversible design? So any of their type-C cables are reversible. Have I got it all wrong?

    • +2

the other end (USB Type A) is also reversible

      • +2

OH!!! didn't even know that was possible. Will need to google it. Thanks.

        • They also make the micro usb reversible, i didn't think that was possible either

      • are you sure? I don't think Type A can be reversible and it doesn't look like it from the photos.

        • If you jam it in hard enough, it will fit.

        • +2

are you sure? I don't think Type A can be reversible and it doesn't look like it from the photos.

Instead of disputing the fact after being told that it can be why don't you take three seconds to Google it!

        • +2

@Maverick-au: I was going to do that but then I asked myself what would annoy Maverick-au the most? Hence my comment.

        • +1

because often people who post here are just plain wrong

THIS cable does NOT have a reversible Type A, only the Type C end is "reversible" which is standard anyway.

        • HUH?? That is a different cable!

Instead of googling random videos, you'd be better off viewing the actual product page.

      • No it isn't.

Data Sync Speed: Up to 480Mbps

Wait, does that mean these are USB 2.0 only cables?
    Aren't USB-C cables normally 3.0?

Also FYI, limit 1 per customer.

    • +1

No, most USB-C cables are USB 2.0. USB 2.0 cables are cheaper to make. In fact, there have also been cases where Benson detected cables which advertised as USB-C USB 3.0 are in fact just USB 2.0.

Even USB 3, you have USB 3.0, USB 3.1 gen 1, USB 3.1 gen 2, USB 3.2. If that mess isn't enough, there is also thunderbolt 3 / USB 2.0 mess. If you do really want to go for USB 3 USB-C, make sure you've done your research.

    Plug: Standard USB2.0 A Male

    No USB 3.0?

  • Thanks got one.

  • Boguht some $1 cheapo's from eBay. Did fast charge for the first month, then it stopped fast charging, and then later charging at all. I saw the inside USB connectors had melted.

Only buying Blitzwolf cables from now on.

  • I'm getting $6.99. Can someone explain?

Data Sync Speed: Up to 480Mbps

Isn't that USB 2.0 speeds? It's intended as charging cable only?

I actually didn't know cables were rated for transfer speed and amps separately.

Are MicroUSB compatible with 3.0 speeds?

    • Are MicroUSB compatible with 3.0 speeds?

No, they have a USB 3.0 version on portable drives and desktop drives with extra connections?

      • The only HDDs I know for sure are 3.0 are the ones with the double connector.

But I thought newer devices would find a way to support microUSB at those speeds. Are today's top smartphones on MicroUSB still using USB 2.0 speeds?

        • The only HDDs I know for sure are 3.0 are the ones with the double connector.

Micro USB for USB 3.0 has the wider connector with extra data pins.
Type B for USB 3.0 has a wider connector with extra data pins.

But I thought newer devices would find a way to support microUSB at those speeds. Are today's top smartphones on MicroUSB still using USB 2.0 speeds?

"Top smartphones" don't use micro USB and there is no way to make micro USB connectors work with USB 3.0.

These cables are ok but the wire is quite stiff, the braided cover fails first at the type C connector and after that the insulation fails before the individual wires break. Once the braiding starts to go watch the cable and throw it away before it deteriorates further.

This breakdown will be accelerated if you are not careful with the cable especially at the type C connector. Aside from this it's a good cable and worth the money.

    • So in other words, BlitzWolf make shit cables?

Aside from this it's a good cable and worth the money.

It's quite a bit caveat for a good cable.

      • +1

So in other words, BlitzWolf make shit cables?

Not really but if you have large wire sizes into a small connector you are going to have a failure point where the wire enters unless you put some protection against bending.

It's quite a bit caveat for a good cable.

The cable is very good value for the money as long as you look after it and dispose of it when the cable starts to deteriorate. If you'd prefer go to Harvey Norman and pay $30 for a cable that might last a bit longer but have half the performance.

    • +4

That describes my experience with a $30 Belkin USB C cable, with the USB C connector end failing first. My Blitzwolf cables have had much tougher treatment and no signs of anything failing so far. At least at this price you can afford to buy a few in case one goes.

  • +1

My house is slowly filling with Blitzwolf cables and chargers.

    None have failed yet.

Great cables for the price IMHO.

    • Inferno!….. No just kidding
